Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Is this booking of 2 one way tickets using Iberia and BA the best option?

I have been trying to find the cheapest cash price for an Avios business class flight from London to Mexico return.

Current favorited option is Iberia Mad > Mex returning BA Cun > LGW

The BA flight is much cheaper than I was expecting it to be and I am not sure why! It certainly looks much cheaper than one way flights I have priced up from USA in the past.Unless BA.com is showing an incorrect fare this looks to be a good deal.

I can book both flights online as 2 one ways, my question is, is there any benefit in calling and (assuming I eventually get through) booking it on one ticket? I assume this would not count as a return as start and end points are different, but might it bring the price down further if on one booking?

One reason why the ex MEX flight will be cheaper than you expect would be because BA doesn’t charge as much for its carrier surcharge than is does ex USA.

TBH I’m really not sure if BA can book this using avios. The app allows it as a cash fare. It’s not a return but it’s not an open jaw either so I’m at a loss as to what to call it!

No harm in calling and asking them to price it up and then take the decision from there.

Since it’s been a while since their last meltdown the phone lines shouldn’t be that busy.

The biggest benefit to booking it as one ticket (if you can) is if there is a cancellation or change to either the outbound or inbound flights you have more flexibility.

Booked as two one ways also means potentially double the admin fees if you want to make changes to both legs.

I assume you’ve planned how to get from Mex to CUN.

    Good to know! Thanks

It looks to be bookable online on BA.com as 2 one way unconnected tickets, at least I can get as far as the pricing page! I can’t cost it as one trip online so don’t know if it is bookable or not or what it would cost!

Good points. I am looking at options for my daughter and I think they would probably take that risk. Flip side I think is that if they somehow got delayed on way to madrid and missed their flight the return flight would still be valid!

Only at a high level. Stay a might or two in Mex and quick search online suggests economy flights for around £70. There is no Avios option that I am aware of!
