-
Hi All,
Excuse my ignorance as this is the first time I am encountering this situation. My partner’s luggage was delayed by 1 day when coming back from her trip (flight was with Iberia).
We have 2 sets of travel insurance:
– through Amex platinum
– as a work benefit (which covers personal travel)Is this the kind of situation where my partner could claim some amount from the travel insurance? We will check the terms of course, but just wanted to check if this is the kind of situation that is typically covered or not.
To be clear, my partner has not really incurred any extra costs because of this, since she was coming home.
Thanks!
MNormally, the assumption is that you have spare stuff at home, so there’s no inconvenience from a small delay in your bags appearing
Last November, I had my bag delayed by Iberia coming back from a 3 week long trip. As such, I didn’t have many clean clothes at home, as they were all in my suitcase. Had a 2 night trip starting a few days later, before my bag had returned. In that case, I did have to go and buy a few bits before my next trip, and Iberia did cough up for those. That’s a pretty unusual situation though!
Was the flight paid for on the Platinum card? If not, it becomes irrelevant as delayed baggage wouldn’t be covered.
What has the airline offered?

Yes, flight was paid for with Platinum card.
Nothing from Iberia yet.
The Platinum insurance will cover for costs reasonably incurred. If there weren’t any, there is nothing to claim. Best to hold out for a token gesture from Iberia, which could take a couple of weeks.
Bit cheeky claiming anything tbh. Outbound, of course. Return? What’s it cost you? Nowt.

IB won’t automatically offer anything. She would need to put a claim in for reimbursement. Airlines rarely give compensation merely for bags being delayed.
But you’ve admitted she hasn’t needed to buy anything so there is nothing for IB to reimburse.
The same would be the same for insurance.
Some of the insurance payments merely for the inconvenience of delayed luggage aren’t likely to apply when you are returning home.
Thanks, it seems like this is not the case to claim anything then.

I think Platinum insurance cover is offered if paid for on any Amex.
