Forums Payment cards American Express Maternity leave and applying for credit

  • 37 posts

    Hi all

This might seem like a silly one, but I’m looking to refer my partner for another Amex card and she is currently on maternity leave, earning statutory.

I recently heard that when applying for a mortgage you are allowed to input your regular income rather than your maternity pay, so I wondered if this would be the same when applying for other credit?

    Thanks

When you apply for a financial product, you follow the guidelines of the organisation you are applying to.

There’s no universal home loan application process.

Be mindful that many home loan brokers/lenders now use an Open Banking data access tool, so they have live income data.

When applying for a mortgage, you will almost certainly have to give 3 months worth of payslip.

When applying for a mortgage the lender is not allowed to discriminate against anyone on maternity leave. As long as your employer will confirm that you are returning to work on the same contracted hours and income as you were on prior to maternity leave, then the lender will accept that.

Thanks Harrier. This is what I had heard, but it sounds like this doesn’t apply to credit card applications.

    I think I won’t chance it then!
