A couple of musings from our recent LHR-MIA/MIA-(JFK)-MIA trip.

Out in economy but in a 2-seater upstairs on the A380 which was a v decent option
indeed for the money. Masses of storage of course, small screen but v responsive. No
footfall traffic as back of aircraft.

Hampton Mid-Beach. All fine, what you’d expect, but happy with the great price ($135 from
Hilton Team Members). If choosing, would stay nearer South Beach next time, but free trolley
v close to hotel which my son loved. A CVS is actually attached to the hotel, with its own entrance!

Hyatt Regency Miami: my conference was here, so went with the reduced rate (plus was leaving youngster
in room as I went up and down between sessions!). Massive, bit tired, didn’t need b/fast but that seemed
crazy expensive ($40+ pp?!) and has terrible reviews. What I did for the first time ever was look at
the online checkin, thinking I might get a higher floor if I beat the crowds. Astonished to see the upgrade
to a 55m2 suite (from our basic double) was only $35/night! So ended up being fabulous. WholeFoods 1 minute away,
and Miami Heat stadium (saw fantastic game) / Bayside / Brickell Village all within walking distance.

MIA-JFK. This part of trip was AA. Couldn’t check in online, but returning in BA Premium Econ. meant I could
choose a “main cabin extra” seat: just behind “first”, extra legroom and one alcoholic drink. No screen or food, but comfy enough.

1.5 hours in JFK T8: no Amex Plat/Priority lounge. Apparently there’s food credit at a steakhouse, but I’m guessing it was already closed.

JFK-LHR on the midnight flight in Premium Econ. Space great, screen large – slightly laggy but great choices. Food served around 0130h, pretty decent. One thing was that the seats seemed SO new that they hadn’t been worn in at all, so were quite hard and fairly difficult to raise/lower. Still, all on time + case made it!

Sounds like a very smooth trip, @Michael – I hope you took the chance to stock up at CVS (if you’re like me and come home with tubs of painkillers, melatonin, etc) and that it was wasn’t like this 😱

There were definitely some strange items locked away, which the youngster asked about.
Mouthwash was one of them – at least there’s some good dental hygiene going on, I guess!!
