    Hi all,

Not sure if anyone has had experience with this before but due to my own mistakes I missed a flight with Virgin today.
However looking in their Conditions of Carriage under point 6.6 (https://help.virginatlantic.com/ng/en/policies/conditions-of-carriage/article-6.html) if you still go to the airport they seem to rebook you with no additional charges.
When I arrived at the airport there was no Virgin staff there to assist, has anyone had experience in this case and then claiming for flights booked by themselves?

    Many thanks

Are you serious? So hypothetically you could book the cheapest possible flight with Virgin, not bother showing up, then get them to pay for a potentially much more expensive ticket with another airline.

    Good luck with that.

Depending on the reason you missed it travel insurance might offer something.

I’m reading it to mean they would rebook him on to another Virgin flight later today if possible or tomorrow ?

But he would need to present himself at the check in desk today (or Virgin desk if they have one) and request a seat (take chocolates and flowers to be on the safe side hahaha)

I the OP needs to book an alternative flight today, he should make a claim on his Travel Insurance for the missed flight.

You are either misreading or not fully reading the conditions.

    It specifically states:

“You may be charged extra if:

    (i) you elect to travel on a Virgin Atlantic flight to an alternative destination;

(ii) you elect to travel on a flight operated by another carrier; or

(iii) you elect to travel in a seat that is in a higher booking class than the one you paid for.”

Ipso facto, if the only seat available at short notice is in a higher-fare, you have to pay the fare difference.

    It also says:

“We will honour your return or onward flights (including reinstating these flights if they have already been cancelled, subject to availability in the same booking class) only if:

    (i) this is permitted by the Tariff that applies to your Ticket and you pay any increased fare, taxes, fees for your revised itinerary and the applicable change fee (which is dependent on your Ticket type and applicable Tariff); or

(ii) you were prevented from showing up for your flight due to a legitimate change in circumstance (including an Event Beyond Your Control) and you provide us with proof (to our reasonable satisfaction) of such an event. If you provide us with this proof then you will not be required to pay any additional charges.”

In other words, the conditions are merely saying that if you want to avoid an ‘no-show fee’, then you have to turn up at the airport on the same day as the original scheduled flight. Otherwise you will have to pay the ‘no-show fee’ in addition to any other change fees, fare differences and changes in taxes. This only applies in extenuating circumstances that you you can demonstrate.

No because the T&Cs specifically say it will be a VS flight.

    OP could try calling VA

But it would be exceedingly helpful if the OP said which airport this was at.

The ‘no Virgin staff there’ implies overseas with no more Virgin flights the same day. Otherwise there will be Virgin staff available at some point, so handle it then.

I took that to imply trying to rebook on another airline. If trying to rebook with Virgin then obviously spend time calling them rather than posting here.

To be honest, the best thing to do is to call VS in this situation and make yourself available to head to the airport – i.e. there and then. Outside LHR, the ground staff – especially those that are DL-by-disguise – are only partially helpful, when they want to be.

But, VS will try to help you in the situation. The one time I had this, I was moved to the same cabin on a later flight free of charge, and that was before I was a VS Gold.

What response, you haven’t given any update on how it ended?
