Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Modifying inbound flight of Barclays voucher booking

  • 97 posts

I’m planning to use my Barclays upgrade voucher to book a return flight, but I’m uncertain of the return date yet.

Once I’ve already flown the outbound:
    – I understand that I cannot cancel the ticket anymore, but can I still change the inbound date?
    – Alternatively, can I add the inbound to the same booking with the voucher? I assume it’s too late at this point.

Barclays vouchers and Amex vouchers each have their own terms but both follow the general Avios terms which in turn apply IATA fare and ticketing rules.

This means that as well your booking becoming non refundable starting 24 hours before the outbound flight, you also can’t add any flights to any existing Avios booking after this point either.

In all scenarios you can change the date of the return subject to availability, ticket validity and paying a change fee. The Barclays not an upgrade voucher needs to be used with care for the return portion of trips given the restriction on journeys needing to originate in the UK.

If I want to change the origin of the inbound flight before I fly the outbound, is that possible? So assuming I’ve used the Barclays voucher to book LHR –> HKG and HKG –> LHR, can I then change the return potion to PVG –> LHR (and at a different date) before I start the trip?

Yes, subject to the usual provisos of availability, ticket validity and payment of a change fee. As it’s presumably all on one booking, the whole itinerary will usually be repriced but that should only make a negligible if any difference.

Remember any change to an avios / voucher booking is really a cancel and rebook situation which requires there to be avios availability on your new flights.

And unlike the 2-4-1 I don’t think you can book a separate inbound flight and have the voucher applied to that separate booking.
