Has anyone had success booking a trip which is starting outside of the UK? ie. Dublin.
I don’t have the BAPP card just now, and it wont be much value to me if this isnt possible.

I’ve done a few dummy bookings with the new voucher to see what’s possible and it’s definitely pricing up for departures from DUB. There was a thread the other day about someone booking F and paying incredibly low taxes but I don’t think they were using the companion voucher. I’m hoping to make the booking for real when seats are released for August 23!

haha, that was me for the F booking.
Thanks for the heads-up on the 2-4-1, might apply in next couple of months.

Yes – I’ve successfully booked MLE-LHR_JER with one of the new 2-4-1s this February, when we were returning from our lovely stay at SS Laamu (highly recommended!). One way we paid 62,500 avios and £299.38 each in taxes and charges.

This was in J btw and it was actually £274.38 each. Breaking it down even further – the taxes/airport fees were £55.78 pp and BA’s ‘cut'(ouch) was £218.60pp 😒

Presumably that also included £25 pp for the RFS fee on the LHR-JER leg?

thanks, helps me out big time.

looks like Dublin is becoming very popular, cant get a Hilton anywhere near the airport for the dates I’m working with just now.

I’d always thought the LHR-JER leg on these redemptions was cost free if booked as part of a redemption, but I bow to your greatere experience @NorthernLass.
It certainly adds no avios and if anything reduces UK charges overall, particularly if the flight would otherwise be departing ex-UK, as APD doesn’t apply 🙂
However, doing it this way I still have to schlep back to GCI from JER but that’s a relatively cheap hop and worth it for me with the saving on the JER-LHR leg!

You don’t pay any avios for a domestic connection but you do have to pay the relevant RFS fee for the cabin you’re travelling in, so for a return in CW/CE, it will add £100 to the total cash element for 2 people. I assume this applies to JER as well as other regional airports. UK APD isn;t an issue on your return leg, as you only pay what the country of departure charges – presumably you’ll see the difference when you come to book an outbound? I’m slightly confused by what you’ve done though – can you not fly GCI to LHR?

Unfortunately not, only GCI-LGW and not on BA either. As a result, we choose the local inter-island hop to connect to the BA network via JER over the alternative of an Aurigny flight to LGW followed by a car / bus transfer to LHR.
Using avios it’s a lot cheaper that way and if paying cash then we boost the tier points earned.
