    Formally part of SLH.

States opening as in July, useful for Parc Asterix for those with kids

It was mentioned in one of the Bits articles a while back.

It’s a beautiful property, not sure how child-friendly though! The hotels on site at Parc Asterix are excellent for families with young children.

We stayed at Chateau Mont Royal years ago and definitely planning to visit next year now it’s an IC. It’s quite remote so you need a car or use taxis. It’s also handy for the gorgeous Chateau de Chantilly for fans of Renaissance history or Bond films!

Is the actual park decent, Anna? Could be a good combo with a city visit!

Hola! We took son and nephew when they were 10 as a much cheaper alternative to Disney, and stayed at the charming hotel on-site – called something like Les Trois Hiboux. I loved it, obviously the theme isn’t as well-known as Disney but it was all beautifully done with a decent selection of rides and a couple of restaurants, plus food stands selling things like hot dogs and Belgian waffles. There’s a park bus direct from CDG which is very handy if you don’t want to drive.

I would really recommend the hotel – it was very cute and rustic and you got park entry with early access included in the price. The family rooms were very good – they had a separate area with bunk beds so we could put the kids to bed and close the door and not have to sit in darkness!

@Michael C – Parc Asterix is great but I think the child needs to be into Asterix a bit to enjoy it properly, which perhaps isn’t the case for Disney parks. We couldn’t get our son to read ‘proper’ books at all, but on the basis any reading was better than no books at all, tried Tintin and Asterix which he devoured enthusiastically. My wife took him and a friend to Euro Disney which the two mums and children disliked (big savings though: nobody was wanting to go to US Disney after that) but I took them to Asterix which was a big success. Chantilly and the surrounding area is really lovely, quite an oasis and the town is really nice if a little BCBG which some might not consider a good thing! Great racecourse as well – it’s the Newmarket of France for training.

Great minds think alike 😂, @JDB, it’s definitely a thing with boys! I found a couple of Asterix anthologies the other day when I was having a clear-out but can’t bear to part with them. I also used to find the cartoons hilarious as a child; they might be available on DVD or YouTube these days. There are a few newer films as well, including one released last year.

All sounds pretty ideal for us, @JDB / @NorthernLass

And I guess you can head straight there from the hell that it CDG!

As an aside, we go to a couple of lovely pubs in the better weather (ha!) that
are next to gallops: one in the village of Ford near Cheltenham, and the other
by Watership Down: the more we think about them, the sooner spring will come!

The direct bus has to be one of the best bits of joined-up thinking ever!
