Any recommendations for Kyoto pls? Many places appear to have very few reviews.

For anyone getting the card now, I wonder if the dinning credit will continue into 2025, if not then the card is no longer worth it for me.

Any recommendations for Mexico City and/or Cancun? There is a suprising range of restaurants available, compared to say nearby Miami.

Any reviews of Rosemary’s brunch, NYC?!

In CDMX – San Angel Inn for lunch.

The wife and I went to Fred’s Seafood and Raw Bar in Cancun in October, and both the food and service were absolutely incredible. Would highly recommend.

If you were to go to San Angel Inn it’s right next door to the Frida Kahlo/Diego Rivera studio (not FK’s house) which you don’t need to pre-book (unlike the house) and if you go at a weekend, the San Antonio market is full of interesting things as well as live music and lots of cafés in the square.

Not on the Plat list, but we like Arango (also for lunch, great food and it’s on a high floor with views over Republic monument) and Raíz. On the Plat list, avoid Azul.

Quality information – many thanks @JDB

Does anyone know how a refund would affect the credit? Would you effectively get the allowance back to use at another restaurant ?

Booked something online and paid, got the Amex credit already.

Sorry, can’t answer your question, but where did you book, out of curiosity? Didn’t think paying online would work tbh.

Yes you do it might not happen automatically but you can raise a claim if it doesn’t.

For those spending their credit at the Ivy – register your card at the BA estore where it’s 5 Avios per £1.

Do not bother with mimi at the river house Singapore. I wanted somewhere relatively non “fancy schmancy” for the family, this place seemed to fit the bill…

It was absolutely pants. Wouldn’t have fed that crap to my dog. Considering what you can get in Singapore for just a few quid it was absolutely pathetic.

I am still having trouble deciding between Chinese cuisine options in London.
Hakkasan seems to be a popular choice but I saw mixed reviews recently. The other Chinese options I consider are Yauatcha, Hutong and Tattu.
Is anybody able to compare these places based on recent visits?

We love Hakkasan and Yauatcha. They both belong to the Tao group iirc.

Hakkasan lost its star but we were happy after our last trip few days ago.

Halkassan is great I’d pick it over Tattu but Tattu is in no way a bad shout

Ate at The Wolseley about a month ago, which is on the list. When it came to pay the only option was scanning a QR code on the table, which took me to a payment screen and I settled with my Platinum card.

AMEX are now saying the spend isn’t eligible as it went through a “payment facilitator” and referred me to the T&C’s. I have raised a complaint as this seems a bit ridiculous- what is the point in a place being on the list if their standard method of payment makes it ineligible?

Anyone else been stung like this?

    That’s really naughty, isn’t it!

Yes got stung in a similar situation, but fortunately was much less for the gold 20% dining credit a while back. In a GBK actually and was also told to pay via the QR but of course this didn’t qualify for the 20% rebate, only after I realised they had tills where that would have been programmed for the rebate.
But unfortunately if using the plat dining credit you must use the card in a physical payment terminal in the restaurant and insist to the staff member, say you don’t have internet or having trouble paying online via QR, they should get the payment terminal out

I kind of get that staff at a GBK want to make their lives as easy as possible, but for The Wolseley to make you pay via a QR code is just so cheap and tacky IMHO!

Worth bearing in mind that GBK also take Tastecard for 25% off the whole bill.

The problem is that Amex sets up these deals with retailers who may then change their systems or have a rogue machine with a different merchant number that doesn’t trigger an offer. Other card providers with cashback arrangements use the narrative to pick up eligible transactions whereas Amex’s deals with chains are designed to include/exclude specific restaurants/hotels. The terms are very clear about acceptable payment methods so nobody should be rushing off to eat in places they wouldn’t be going to anyway.

It’s pretty unsatisfactory/ridiculous to have a card with Amex giving you back your own money anyway but then to do so in such a restrictive way compounds the absurdity.

What if someone doesn’t have a smart phone (or doesn’t have their phone with them)? I take it the restaurant is still set up for card payments in that instance?

Sure, but it means the staff member has to come back with a card and actually interact with you! So 2000s!

    So, a result!

I escalated this to a complaint, which AMEX have upheld as an error between them and the merchant, and confirmed the rejection I was given over live chat was wrong. They’ve awarded the £150 credit now, and as a goodwill gesture have reloaded the offer so I’ve got another £150 to spend this year. Very happy with that!

Looking for some advice/help from you good folk

Have the Platinum Card but it’s issued in Thailand. Will be back visiting the U.K. next month and just wondering if ‘Tim’s List’ is the official list or is there another u.k list of restaurants that U.K. members could share where the credit can be used?

I will be mainly based in Nottingham but there’s nothing listed and it will probably require a trip to Birmingham to spend the international credit.

    Thanks
