I’ve been flying with virgin and using flying club miles for a number of years.
I flew this summer, booking the flights as soon as they were released last September as I knew it would be a busy route. I booked the outbound flight at 5am via phone as a one way, calling back a few weeks later to book the return journey.
Travelling as a party of 4 we were charged 45000 miles pp. I thought we would be charged 45000 x 2 and then have 2 passengers travel as companions, at 22400 pp.
Has anyone had any experience/success challenging Virgin on this?You made it clear that you’re booking with vouchers, right? And the vouchers disappeared from your account? And you also checked their peak/offpeak calendars and redemption rates?
[sorry for covering the basics]Theoretically, you may not be able to use a second voucher for persons 3 and 4, but, people say Virgin agents sometimes may be easy on it.
Even if all worked out well, with 2 vouchers, you’d pay 45k x 2 miles, but taxes for 4 people. Do you remember how much you paid for taxes and fees? Perhaps that can help out a bit.
Otherwise, they may have recharged you by mistake when you called to book the returns…
Taxes and fees were all correct, and I was travelling in peak season.
I have called virgin back and they asked did I specifically say I wanted to be charged for companions. In all honesty it was 5 am, so I may not have used the word companion, but I know I did say I wanted to book for 2 of us at the normal miles rate and the other 2 travellers at the lower rate.Are the vouchers still available in your account?
