My girlfriend and I have booked to stay at an Mercure for 6 nights but the night before we were told we can only stay for 4 nights because of renovation work at the hotel and our booking was accepted because of an technical error. We have been booked for an Ibis for the remaining two nights and been given free breakfast and a dinner, Do we have a case for some monetary refund aswell or is the free breakfast and dinner an acceptable refund on their part? As they believe it is
Thank you
There isn’t really any fixed amount of compensation for this sort of thing, it’s really by mutual agreement and will depend on the relative prices as well as the merits or disadvantages of the Ibis from your perspective and the hassle of having to move during your stay. The value of the breakfasts and dinner offered need to add up to more than the cost difference between the hotels plus something for the inconvenience.
If it’s free breakfast for six days then that sounds pretty decent to me.
Assuming you actually eat breakfast. If you intermittently fast and only chow down at lunch then that’s no use!
It all depends on whether it’s a nice IBIS in a suitable location or a tired one overlooking a motorway. So have a look at reviews and price it up for dates a few months ahead to see how much you are losing out by the move and whether you feel this covers it.
I’ve only ever been walked once and it helped that the hotel were very nice about it. We turned up for check in to be told that the guest in our room was sick and they basically couldn’t kick him out. And they were full. Could have been a lie of course. Didn’t seem that way. We got put in a taxi to a sister hotel in a slightly nicer location and were comped a very nice breakfast there.
No harm, no foul that time.
If the IBIS is cr4p then ask for a nicer hotel!
