Literally just had my Platinum retention offer through the chat. Again, like earlier posts, I have been quoted 35k with no spend target.
I asked the question if signing up to the BA Amex card and discontinuing spending the platinum made any difference to the platinum renewal offer, but was told they couldn’t comment.
Either way buying 35k Avios would cost GBP60 more than that or roughly two premium economy flights from London to Manilla
Got 50k through the chat this morning – took a bit of effort through different teams – made clear i would consider cancelling (near end of first year). No spend target but I do use the card. Positive outcome – value is borderline for me without incentive
Another with a 35k points quoted (and accepted) with no spend target here – offered with minimal resistance of a brief reminder of the array of benefits that justify the fee. I’m about a month from my anniversary / fee charging trigger.

Very bizzare conversation (phone)… Coming up to a year, they initially offered me a free year of gold, then offered me 50k ‘loyalty bonus’ which I accepted and will hit my account in the next day or two.
Meanwhile I asked if I can then ring up and cancel next week… And the answer was ‘well we have no control over your choices’..
So to sum up they have me 50k with no spend and giving me no particular reason to keep the card for a second year.
If I then cancel once the points are in my account are Amex likely to frown upon me in the future?
In initial year, wanted to cancel before change in terms and see if they offered me a retention bonus, probably a bit early since my renewal isnt until April. Got offered downgrade to gold, nothing else, chose to cancel and reset the 2 year period.

Something like 35k would definitely make me keep the card till next year. Cancelation it is.Amex PlatCard Holder for about 16 months, use a loads of the benefits like Travel Insurance, PP & Cent lounges 16 times at least, Dining credit UK and Abroad, Harvey Nics credit, Amex FHR, Hertz 4 hours extra etc etc. I put very little spend on Plat card since initial bonus as spend is on another card but benefits pay for themselves. Also received a few referral bonuses. Tried my luck via chat asking directly for retention bonus, passed to retention team and 35k straight away – happy with that.

I was also told that it may increase to 50k if I spend more on the card. I directed £8k of spending to platinum in 2 months, waited til after the statement dates… but still got 35k – so no change due to spend.

I give reason for the call as cancellation, confirm I want to cancel, and I used to feign and see what is offered. But recently I outright say I will reconsider if there is a retention offer, to speed things along!
I just asked over chat if there were any retention offers, as I believed the increased costs over the last few years have made the card less attractive. Within a couple of minutes they come back with an offer of 75,000 points. I couldn’t be bothered pushing for any more so accepted it!

Lol I think this is pretty much the max, 35k, 50k, or 75k. Assume you never had a retention offer prior?

I ask them for a renewal offer every year at this time. I think it was 40,000 points last year

50k MR points offered within 2 minutes on phone to Brighton. 1 year and 4 days since last time.
35,000 MR for me just now over the phone. Didn’t haggle as I was refused over chat a few weeks ago. The last amount I received was about 14 months ago.

Just a transfer to gold offered to me – only had the card since June – so proceeded with cancellation prior to the October charge refund change.
I was just offered 7000 points on my gold card not spending based. 10,000 on BAPP if I spend £3000. and 5000 on a different gold card for spending £1000

Another 35k retention via online chat. Suggested I wanted to cancel, was redirected to the retention team and provided an offer. I asked for more but was told it was system generated.
Have had the card for 3+ years, hardly use it – keeping it for the benefits and occasional offer. I am convincing myself that it just about pays for itself …
