I just got offered £55 no strings attached. Not as good as those points offers people seem to be getting, but has no spend target either

Thought that was a typo, that is poor. Have you had the card long?

Once these are credited, can I still apply for a downgrade and get a partial refund of the fee?

    yes for now.

Just got offered double Avios for 3 months when cancelling my free BA Amex.

Small beer compared to some of the offers for the paid cards perhaps. Not sure if these offers on the free card are common, or if they’re seeing increased cancellations following recent announcements?

I asked about the retention bonus on live chat, and was offered to downgrade. I asked again and the agent just repeated the free downgrade offer. I got the impressed they seemed pretty keen on just processing the cancelation.
The agent asked me if there was anything else they could help me with, and as I was typing they had disconnected.

Bye bye Amex, I will possibly be back in 24 months time.

Just got offered 50,000 MR points to keep my platinum for another year – got the same last year too. Very happy with that!

8 years and never had a promo before. I was hoping they mis-spoke but it did credit on my statement as £55

35k, no spend requirement. Makes it worth keeping for me, since it was an upgrade from ARCC during the 100k offer (the last 25k of the offer requires keeping it in year 2, this is 60k total points, which swings it for me, without considering anything else, whereas before it was marginal).

Another 35k this year just after I noticed the renewal fee land. Happy with that!

50k, first time I’ve ever applied and I’ve had the card about 5 years

Offered a downgrade recently with no MR offered. I must be a peasant and not worth their time (been with Amex for 12yrs).

    HUACA.

    Nothing, again. Cancelled.

Now it’s got me wondering, if there’s no retention offer, and the option is to cancel, is a downgrade also an offer where your account needs to be eligible for it?

Can I ask to be downgraded if there’s no retention offer?

I was offered a downgrade but declined.

    Yes, downgrade is always available.

Phoned yesterday to cancel, nothing offered except a downgrade to Gold. I previously recieved a 50k points retention bonus about a year ago.

Ive seen an offer to upgrade from Gold to Platinum, and following the link, it seems that I am eligible. Can I just upgrade now and get 40k points? (Spend £6k in 3 months I think it was).

Also, would I get the benefits again? Such as the £150 dining credits, and £50 Harvey Nicols?

They talked me into downgrading to Gold, because it is fee free for the first year, £10 per month Deliveroo credit and 4 lounge passes is pretty decent for £0. Only thing of course is the clock for sign on bonuses isnt resetting.

Well, it’s possible you would get the credits all over again, but they would have to be quite stupid to allow it. Although it says you are eligible for the upgrade some have reported that once you embark on the process it gets rejected. As for your concern about resetting the two year year clock, who knows whether that will still be the required gap given the generosity of SUBs and the period in the UK being much shorter than US.

I’ve had my Platinum card for 10 years and been offered 35k every year.

Curious to know if they will be renewing the dining credit, I assume they will.

I have asked a couple of times for my platinum in my first year and always got told nothing available. I just asked again as my renewal is due shortly and they offered a no strings attached 35,000 MR points.
P2 and I both got 10,000 Avios earlier in the year when renewing our BAPP cards. We had to spend £3k in 3m to get those.
Add to my two Plat referrals (inc 1 of the 3x MR pts for 3m) and I’ve got a decent haul in bonuses this year. Up to 136,000 in total so far…

They should increase it to £200 + £200!

The Deliveroo credits on the Gold got extended 2-3 times without any communication, so I think they’ll probably do something like that and keep quiet. However, I’d prefer if it was just straight up credit for dining without being locked to those restaurants.

I hope they cut the benefit and provide something else! Amex travel credit, Hyatt status, Heathrow parking, fast track security, restaurants in priority pass etc.

@BBbetter Agreed, something much more straightforward.

Surely cant be a coincidence that 2 days after I post this, I get a survey asking me to rank the existing benefits and possible future benefits?

Its highly likely there’s a shuffle of benefits (not the core ones like travel insurance and hotel status), probably to coincide with end of dining credits. The bad news is the possible future benefits are going to make it an even more of a coupon book. Proposed benefits are discounts to ingredient delivery (Gousto), gym memberships, free starter or dessert at restaurants, coffee subscriptions (their example was Starbucks). Really hope they dont go down this route.
