have redemption surcharges recently had a hike?

I’m looking to do a repeat booking of a trip I’ve done a couple times previous.
In June I paid around £900 total for MAN-ATL return, in Upper, redeeming a virgin upgrade voucher.

Now I’m looking for next year. It’s £628 outbound, and $1000 ish for the return. That seems quite a hefty increase.

Are you pricing inbound as a separate ticket?

yes. Do i need to do this as a return? I keep reading on here that redemption flights should be booked as 2 x one way.

Only certain redemptions to a few countries are best booked separately due to issues with taxes and surcharges.

The US isn’t one such destination.

Most likely people are referring to low tax inbounds, such as Rio and Hong Kong, or maybe just referring to BA, as BA introduced RFS on long haul, so the tax is the same for most destinations simply booked as 2x one ways, and just gives more flexibility (although doubles the cancellation costs). Virgin doesn’t have RFS, so you should always book as a return.

Perfect, thanks for the replies. A return trip it is then.
A tad awkward to price myself, and its an open-jaw I require this time around, but as everyone has pointed – it looks to be a lot cheaper.

    Thanks all.
