Forums Payment cards American Express Rejected 3x this year for The Platinum Card

I was rejected for the BAPP a couple times, I tried to apply whenever there was an enhanced offer 60K, 70K, ect. Each time I would get the same email about credit score being the issue:

“Thank you for your interest in an American Express® Card. After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that your application was unsuccessful.

The details that you provided in your application form, combined with data we may have obtained from an authorised credit reference agency(ies), whose contact details are provided below, did not match our minimum requirements. In particular our decision was influenced by information in your credit report.” …

The time I applied before I was accepted I called the new accounts team 0800 032 7404 and they said, if I allowed them to reduce the limit on my current card then I would be accepted for the BAPP, I agreed to that. However for some reason I didn’t hear back, so I just left it.

Back in June, I applied for the BAPP on the last day of the enhanced offer and was accepted straight away with a good limit, without reducing the limit on my current card.

So I would suggest to keep trying, whenever there is an enhanced offer. In the meantime maybe reduce your current card limit by a couple thousand.

Again, it’s NOT credit score. It’s credit information.

Well to close off my 4 week dialog with Amex I’ve just received the following after reducing my credit limits by the requested £2600, on top of the £16000 I’d already reduced it by.

!Thank you for your interest in an American Express® Card. After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that your application was unsuccessful….. In particular our decision was influenced by information in your credit report.”

Followed ONE MINUTE later by another email:

“Thank you for your continued interest in American Express. Your application for the Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Credit Card was successful and your new Card has been sent.”

You couldn’t make this shit up if you tried. Have they sent me a card I can’t use? Time will tell.

More likely the system auto generated the original which was quickly overruled by the manual review.

Based on what you’ve said it’s highly likely they didn’t like the total amount of credit you have access to.

So why have they now given me a crapload more credit with the Bonvoy card. Please don’t try and apply any logical thought process to Amex, you can see by lots of other posts that they’re completely arbitary. This was the 4th manual review.

2600 is a completely arbitrary value when you look at the figures.

You’re in danger of sounding like JDP

It’s a financial institution it absolutely has logic built into systems even if you don’t know what it is or like it.

This is one of the industries that don’t make completely arbitrary decisions because they actually get watched, challenged, caught out by the FCA and fines are potentially huge.

What’s a crapload more credit on your new Bonvoy card? More than the £18.6k they asked you to reduce your total Amex credit by over the 4 reviews?
