A question – has any one managed to move from Silver to Gold, or Gold to Platinum after a status match, without any RJ sectors?
Mine got extended. The code shares operated by Iberia Express were not accepted. Doing a mileage run again this summer. I booked a fixed desk in a flex space in Granada for a month. Plan is to take the first flight out and the last flight back to Madrid every weekday in August.
Is it specifically Iberia Express that was declined? I have 3 flights in October on Iberia – all Iberia flight codes, with 2 operated by Air Nostrum. Hoping to use these to get me to Platinum.

All Air Nostrum to destinations in RJ’s “earn miles” calculator were accepted. Note I took some funruns to places such as Castellon de la Plana and between Mallorca & Menorca. These flights were declined. If RJ does not recognize the route, the route does not exist ;p
So are you flying LHR-MAD-GRX each morning, spending the day working, then flying back at night? I’m guessing that’s cheaper than booking accommodation?
Maybe I could do this to somewhere with a beach 😂. Though the MAN-MAD is only once daily so I’d need a more expensive BA flight for the other end of the day.
So if using the RJ method, you need to run each route through their calculator to check it’s eligible?

Thanks for the reply.
Looking forward to when I’ll finally hit Gold at the end of August to start getting some perks and then hopefully Platinum by mid-December.I’ve just had a bit of a play with the RJ calculator and there are a few routes missing, e.g. VGO to LPA and PMI. These are seasonal, though, so maybe that’s why?

Oh God no, I’d be completely drained of life doing that for a straight month haha. Sorry, should’ve been clearer, I rent a pied-a-tierre for work in MAD so will be using that as a base.
And yes I learned my lesson and do a calculator check first. It’s based on segments, not routes. So if you had say BIO to BCN via MAD one 1 PNR you’ll be fine. I’m pretty sure BJZ to BCN on Air Nostrum will not be credited (still tempted to do it, just for kicks).

Someone on Flyertalk mentioned the destinations in the calculator have not been updated since 2015.
I flew from HND to HKG on CX, but a QR flight number – doesn’t show on the mileage calculator, but after a manual claim it was added to my activity list.

Will be interested to hear how the Air Nostrum aspect plays out for you. My Iberia Express flight LGW-MAD (bought through IB) didn’t credit automatically but a couple of emails to the RJ CS team sorted it out. Credited 6 weeks later. My Iberia flight LHR-MAD a month later (bought through BA so BA codeshare) credited automatically about 5 days later.
As an aside I also had another BA flight out of my 10 so far not credit automatically, but an email sorted it out. My RJ FFN was in each, so it seems a bit random. Very small team at RJ CS so patience is required.

Are newish RJ routes AMM-MAN and AMM-STN in the calculator?
@tootsci, one of my August IB flights has changed to Air Nostrum. I’m not chasing status this year but will check what appears in my IB account.
@titaniumostrich, so you’re living at your Madrid pad but working from an office in Granada? Was that the cheapest and/or shortest IB routing?I may need to look at such arrangements for (hopefully) 2027, cheapest cities in Spain to fly to and stay in. My cousin might get fed up with me crashing in her spare room too often! Unfortunately the ancestral home is currently tied up in some legalistic inheritance wranglings.
I’m up for a lot, but 06:00 flights everyday would be eating away at ones’ work efficiency (and satisfaction) so requirement #1 was outward 08:00ish. Since I’d get “to the office” at say 10:00 and probably be taking significant time off to rank menu del dia’s (side project), requirement #2 was a return 22:00ish.
In order to make the next days’ flight there would need to be an alternative return in case of a cancellation, requirement #3. That axed all Northern coast airports since there are no direct AVE/Alvia’s. (I wish there were bullet trains to Santiago or Oviedo. Those would’ve been my top choices.)
Preferably avoiding the summer crowds, I dropped Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante & Valencia. That left Jerez & Granada and the latter was the most economical choice. Granada might not have a lounge but I prefer a small airport for this type of project so I was fine with that.
I got RJ status (Gold sparrow) via the hotel status match offer last year. IT’s been great getting OW Sapphire benefits but I haven’t hit the segment requirement to maintain this. New to this generally – can anyone advise on the quickest way to get back to Gold Sparrow after my year ends (I’m assuming I get a soft landing to Silver Jay and therefore OW Ruby).
I had heard of some people being offered paid extensions of the status via status match but nothing has come my way unfortunately.
@TO – Please keep us updated on your progress and the menus del dia!
OK, so my 26 segments are now showing as confirmed in my RJ account/app, but with my status expiry date still 05 Aug 25.
I guess I will have to wait until then to see if it updates to Aug 2026 right?
Anyone any experience of this?I got extended shortly after the expiry date. The Royal Club desk said they could upgrade manually once/if the required segments were confirmed by the partner airlines. If they just got posted I’d wait a fortnight and send them a friendly mail if nothing changed automatically.

Thank you 👍
Has anyone seen reported cases of people managing to status match SAS EuroBonus Gold, which was acquired via the BA status match last year, into RJ Gold Sparrow under the currently-running offer? Alternatively, have you seen any evidence of StatusMatch refunding the USD 150 processing fee on requests which were denied due to ineligibility?
The LH status match didn’t work for me last year (also processed via StatusMatch) as it detected my SAS EuroBonus Gold was itself a result of a status match. With the SAS EuroBonus Gold status still running past its theoretical Feb 2025 expiration date, I wonder whether I’d be more successful this time around. Then again, I don’t want to lose USD 150 in the attempt. Any information would be greatly appreciated, as I’m dropping down to BA Club Bronze at the end of the month.
@AET Several people have reported success with SAS matches to RJ in the current campaign
https://www.statusmatcher.com/company/scandinavian-airlinesDidn’t think to check StatusMatcher. Thanks for that. Unfortunately, they don’t report whether their SAS EuroBonus status was matched or earned… I’m worried of getting denied on the basis mine was matched and losing USD 150 in fees…

Understood – it may be worthwhile posting your question there in case one of the contributors has used that route…
BTW I’ve been informed flights have not been credited due to multiple returns on the same day (during the mileage run). Another new rule. Glad I didn’t book such multiples this time around.
Is this rule set out somewhere, @titaniumostrich? How many sectors do they class as multiple? It’s going to be like going up against the Borg in Star Trek at this rate as airlines adapt to flyer behaviour 😂
BA’s overhauls are nothing compared to this haha. I’ve settled on the fact that this FFP is one of the exotics, and I’ll take whatever is thrown at me. These “rules” aren’t published anywhere, much as the lifting of the RJ segments in our favor. I’m happy enough to enjoy status and fly around a bit.
I haven’t tried, but perhaps same-day BIO-MAD-BCN-BIO will be fine? Or MAD-AGP-MLN-MAD? Worth testing. Well. No, on second thought, let someone else do that :p. I’m sticking to the “vanilla flights” going forward.
Come on now, we can’t complain. It’s like investing in the Zimbabwean Dollar. Nobody can predict the future, but regardless it’s damn fun to be trudging to the tuck shop with a wheelbarrow full of banknotes.
