Forums Payment cards American Express Spending £6k by PayPal

I’ve read one or two posts that you can use PayPal/Amex to gift a friend money, is this true?

Also, side question. Hertz gold plus is free (according to google)…so what’s the benefit with platinum?

Yes it’s true but £60 not £6k you will be shut down.

You can definitely do it and people have posted their experiences on here. Someone was paying rent to their wife or someone for a year through PayPal and Amex hadn’t done anything to them. However, I think if you really abuse it, then they’ll know it’s being abused. There’s a post on Reddit with someone doing this sort of stuff and moving £100K to get cashback, and then Amex telling the to return that cashback back.

What would be an OK amount? More answers the better. I may need to do 1 or 2k if I’m to meet the 6 k target

Just buy Amazon credit and/or top up Octopus energy account to hit the bonus. Safer and no threat of being closed down for being an idiot.

This is the post that @Maples was on about

You will note the number of people (including moi) who were/are astounded that they did not get shut down. Obviously it is up to you. Some people really value their PayPal accounts but others are like, meh.

Oh and Hertz you get five star status which means your car is less likely to have a nail in the tire and you earn more points. And you can book for 28 hours (using Amex platinum rental code) but only pay for 24.

    That is £20 thank you.

The truth is £1,000 might work for someone but not someone else.

Personally only send what you would be happy stuck in PayPal accounts for weeks on end while they KYC / investigate if they feel something is up

The same would apply on the Amex side – what they will tolerate depends on the overall conduct of the account more than any absolute limits.
