Disclaimer: we are 2 parents, and one 8-yr old, so this definitely affects our choices!
Trafalgar St James: Trafalgar King (basic) room – GBP 230 (Hilton Family & Friends), GBP25 b/fast for 1 adult 1 child (2 adults last night).
-Beautiful room and breakfast room. Rooftop bar view amazing, service terrible (also, I couldn’t reserve a particular table as a hotel guest, just a “space” at a certain time). Breakfast was buffet + 1 hot item: all tasty although the range surprisingly limited. Views over Canada House/Traf. Sq. lovely way to start day. Stunning bathroom with great bath.
Glad we tried it, though probably would choose others (Conrad/Bankside) again next time. Location unbeatable, of course, especially as we went to the theatre one night, so just strolled back. Maybe more for a romantic w/end away? Also, not keen on there barely being any lobby.
Bankside: King Deluxe – GBP 230 (Summer Special including B/F: this was the only night I saw this offer for). Modern/industrial chic. Spacious, big open lobby & bar – just loved it all, especially for families. Small but v cute pool with very long opening hours (0630-2200h, I believe). Free sweet (as in Love Hearts!) trolley in reception. Room had a couch large enough for a shortish person to sleep on! Separate bath/shower. Breakfast also in an airy room, with great choices. Location might not suit all, but only 5 mins. from Jubilee line (Southwark) and of course lovely river walks in good weather. Will 100% be back.
Kensington: double + extra bed – GBP 110 (Hilton Family & Friends) + GBP 15 b/f adult+ child. This is our go-to cheap’n’cheerful overnighter. Westfield nearby for cinema/it’s raining options (we also often park here as we drive in from the west: GBP15/24 hours if registering online). Lots of bus options, plus lovely walk up to Holland Park tube, past Daunt’s, and also the actual park of Holland Park is nearby (fab adventure area for kids). All MUCH more basic than the other two hotels mentioned, of course, but for a “we´re only going to be in the room 10 hours” place, it’s always met our needs.
I’m only silver for now (before taking up the Amex Plat shortly!) but did get the triple points posted almost immediately. Happy to answer any questions!
Thanks for the reports. I’ve never found any use for a hotel lobby so didn’t even notice that – funny what different things affect different people’s choices! Always good to get a different view on things.
Sounds like a wonderful week – you’re lucky to have London within easy reach! I was looking at theatre options for Manchester this summer and it was utterly dire 😪 (apart from Diana Ross, which had been postponed for 2 years though!)
Definitely worth getting HH gold, I’ve never had a bad Hilton breakfast. 🍳

Totally true, SS! Think it’s from the years I lived in Asia way back when, where the hotel lobby scene
comprised an entire level of social/work life! Also love the 5am jet-laggy coffees…although maybe not in Kensington ;o)))

Diana’s Glasto performances (on tv!) was a bit yikes…! Though have always been a fan.
Toying with Rod S. in B’ham in Dec. for OH’s prezzie…
I stayed in two this week. Biltmore (Grosvenor Square) and Conrad, St James’ Park.
The former was pretty faultless and the latter comparatively disappointing.

Have never stayed at the Biltmore, but would love to: my friends who work for Hilton
were just there for the first time, and were of the same opinion as you, Amy!

I was concerned as some of the TA reviews were a bit dire for The Biltmore and the Conrad’s were amazing. The Biltmore was full of Arabs avoiding the summer in the Middle East but that suited me as I Love mezze and they had a special menu of Middle Eastern food which was available for dinner and at the breakfast buffet. Was in heaven.
