Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Suite upgrade voucher on a suite

  • 43 posts

    Hi

Anyone had experience of how IHG treat the suite upgrade voucher if you already have a suite booked? Do they book you into the next category up?

Currently got IC Chicago booked and the cheapest Railcard room was a suite.
The other option is a Kimpton but currently favouring the IC as I have Ambassador and can get a guaranteed 4pm check out.

    Thanks

I’m pretty sure it’s in the Ts and Cs what they are supposed upgrade you from/to, but it sounds like some hotels are more rigid about it than others. There’s some anecdotal evidence that (IIRC) some ICs will only upgrade you to a higher room category, because that’s the minimum they have to do (per Flyertalk, anyway!)

I don’t think you’re going to know until you call IHG and make your request.

Also – is the railcard rate a direct booking? I don’t know how those work!

You add 786996886 into the Corporate ID/Corporate Special Rate on Rate Preference.

Doesn’t work on all but normally ~20% off best flex so slightly cheaper than the non refundable rate but you get to cancel up to 3 days before on most.
21 days I think at the Seafire though!

Yes they are direct bookings – the code only works via the IHG website.

Confirmable Suite Upgrades will be applicable for one room upgrade to an entry-level suite or premium room where a suite is not available.

My reading of that is it only applies to when you book a lower level room and it’s an upgrade to the lowest level suite and not from a lower level suite to a higher one.

But as Northern Lass says says no harm in calling and asking,

Note the AMB upgrade won’t stack on top of the CSU upgrade,

@DoubleA – the Seafire cancellation period changed just recently to a a week before, on points bookings anyway.

Yes, I just read that too – down to the discretion of the hotel if they stack AMB upgrade.

Slightly off-topic – is there any way of knowing which hotels work with the railcard rate? I’ve tried various cities and dates now on weekend nights and just keep getting the message that my rate is not available!

    Not that I’m aware of.
& I have noticed that a few hotels now have the cheaper rooms as not available but some of the premium rooms are.
As an example if you look at the Indigo Tower Hill on the weekend 9-11/8 that should show you the railcard rate only available on some rooms.

RC rate rooms have restricted availability.

Not all hotels take part. The CP Berlin near Wittenbergplatz has never had any RC rooms even though the nearby IC has.

The Voco Manchester doesn’t either (but that may be more because it’s a new to IHG hotel)

They are also usually only available for stays including a Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun night.
