It’s mostly working for me.
50/50 as to whether the app loads up without an error on the screen, or a message saying “we’ve closed applications etc.” on the top up page, or something on the same page page telling me I can apply for the card. Usually force closing the app temporarily sorts out some issues.
Not had any online or in store issues recently – maybe had to use the pin once.
Fairly quick in awarding 1-30 or so Avios for small shops etc.
May see if I can pay my credit card with it.
It works for normal transactions. Just not the profitable ones.
Most I’ve used it for was a BA Holiday deposit of maybe £200. That worked fine.
May pay off the rest of the balance with it in pieces (much like I used to do with 3V cards back when Tesco CC points had some use)
Generally the odd £70-£90 UK hotel and if coupled with 6x Avios, for an IHG hotel through the e-store, it works well enough.
I’m surprised BA are still advertising this product, despite the flood of negative reviews
A dull FYI:
A couple of months ago I was refunded £70 or so by the Guatemalan airline I did some of the original spend target with. Hadn’t used the card in a long time and the app wouldn’t work, so I called. Long story short, they had to send me a new card and do various things to make it work – which it wouldn’t. In the end they refunded by bank transfer with a promise to look into it. Six weeks or so later they’ve e-mailed saying the only way to fix it would be to open a new account, which they’re not offering now – so they’ve given me 5200 Avios (with some nonsense about that being the most I could have earned on it, which can’t be true, can it?) to say sorry.
I have to say that the avios per £1 thing with the prepaid really does seem obsolete given the Barclaycard earning…goodness knows what they could ever offer going forward to make it remotely appealing…
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but this seems the best place for my query.
Anyone else had the following email?
Not sure if it’s legit, and thought I had closed my account years ago, though I do remember the account closure process not being entirely reassuring.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this e-mail finds you well.
We are writing to you as the card issuer of the Avios Card Program, which has now ended. We are writing to inform you that we will be introducing a monthly dormant account maintenance fee of £2.50 per month to cards or accounts that are dormant and unused over a rolling 12-month period for this Card Program.
EML bears significant costs maintaining these cards and accounts where it holds unused funds and/or continues to provide its platform and ongoing service. This dormant account maintenance fee is in compliance with the applicable local legislation.
This fee will be implemented from 1st June 2025.
We thank you in advance for your co-operation.
With very best regards,
PFSL EML Account Management Team
It’s a tough one because there is no way to check the status of the account, and everyone assumes the accounts were closed when the product was discontinued.
Try and contact EML and see what they say in this regard
