Peeps some thoughts please
I can get to AUH ex NCL but Air Chance want min 5 nights to get best fare and it’s in an A350 which I quite like but that adds hotel costs. Nested GGK inbetween.
It’s cash neutral out of AMS/PAR with positioning flights same day but both Jordanian and Egyptair stick me on A320/319 though I can squeeze those two trips into 4 days so save hotel costs
What would you go for?TIA
I do not wish to be rude but I think this is the least clear post I’ve seen on Headforpoints and I have seen many.
I’d think you were trolling but you are a regular poster!
GGK?
Air Chance?
So I’d be astounded if anybody could offer any vaguely useful thoughts so please do us all a favour and write in more detail and with much more clarity what you are seeking to do and what you wish to achieve by doing it.
It appears you wish to go from Newcastle to Abu Dhabi but then it’s just nonsense thereafter…
I thought it was just me!
The less people’s brains hurt, the more likely they are to read to the end of the post and attempt to respond helpfully, lol.
Ditto!
A TP run thread that doesn’t mention how many TPs are on offer (and the cost) for the different options isn’t a TP run thread.
A TP run on Air Chance is going to be fun!
This seems more like a post for Flyertalk than for HfP. I can understand the post at least (assuming Chance = France) but it’s unanswerable: if we don’t know the difference in cost there’s no way of making a comment. Even if we did know the costs, it would depend on the OP’s preferences and finances.
Apols to all concerned: it was not my intention to troll or confuse and on reflection it should have been worded more clearly. I will walk away suitably chastised with tale between legs and maybe just observe rather than engage for a while. I could expand as I knew what I meant but n0t all experts like you.
Sri Lankan are having some reliability issues at the moment, due to aircraft shortages. With 2 AUH-CMB-CGK runs, there’s a decent chance you’ll get hit at least once. You might be able to get a re-routing (but then you’ll have to deal with ORC – Original Routing Credit), but you may have to wait an extra day. Factor that into your plans.
A taxi in the day between DXB and AUH is only about £70 (more at night), so it might make sense to fly into Dubai rather than Abu Dhabi to commence the tier point run. Also use AutoSlash to check the price of a one-way car hire, we managed £20 with Hertz then a tenner for fuel!
@Richard Peters – no need to ‘observe rather than engage for a while’ … we all make mistakes and I for one certainly find your contrubutions to the community useful. It is just that, on this occasion, your query was more than a little cryptic 😀
As to your original question, I’d say it’s a personal choice whether a TP run is designed to be as efficient as possible or if one prefers a more leisurely approach. The latter will likely be more time and cost intensive but perhaps result in a more enjoyable experience while accruing your status tokens. The decision, as they say, is yours!
TY @Guernsey Globetrotter. It was a simple albeit not very well worded question about positioning for a TP run and not really sure it merited the opprobrium from so called helpful “experts”
@Froggee I’m sure none of your posts ever have a spelling mistake and forgive me for the temerity to misspell the code for Jakarta! Hardly a hanging offence. Anyone in the travel industry knows that Air Chance refers to Air France. Google it.
@Northernlass: what’s it like being practically perfect?Ditto @B A Flyer IHG Stayer
@Yonasi I’m not expecting to get TP with Air France nor did I ask if I could (lets keep it simple for everyone)
TY @Matt & @Gagravar for being constructive.
FWIW I did sort a decent TP run for 1040 in April 24 but as you are all experts and will no doubt pull it apart there’s no point in sharing with you.
Now back to observing
Good Grief. People tried to understand what you wanted and help you and all you can do is insult us for asking YOU to clarify what you were asking.

@Richard Peters, unfortunately with the misleading title and missing context, the original post made no sense even without the typos. What you observed was people trying to help and you refusing to assist. If your post was as intended, you were not just looking for experts on travel, but a mind reader as well.It is your prerogative to not share the detail of the TP run that you thought was decent, I just found it rather against the spirit of the forum.
Massive overreaction @Richard Peters. It may help to try not take anything too personal. With written text it’s easy miss tongue in cheek comments and there was really nothing that insulting for you to take such offence at. Some of us were called oiks last week lol, for being creative with TP runs. You’ve got to shrug these things off and lighten up.
I only searched for this thread after reading @Froggee post in today’s chat thread (12 Oct)
My immediate reaction when reading the initial post (which I read twice before going any further) was that OP is asking is it better to do a 5 day trip flying Air France (Chance clearly being being rhyming slang) on an A350 from Newcastle or fly from Amsterdam or Paris on Egypt Air or Royal Jordanian on an A319 or A320 and save a day and the associated extra hotel night?
To my mind the post was quite light hearted in tone and typos aside wasn’t lacking detail to make an informed response.
On reading the subsequent posts I think that most people were able to decipher that. My view is that we should be able to ask anything travel related on these forums and it doesn’t matter whether it is badly written or not
We are not all able to be witty or clear and concise in our writing, Some are clearly better at it than others.I think it’s fair to respond by asking for clarification but we can do so without rudeness or condescension.
To answer the original question I personally would choose comfort over the cost/ time saving. YMMV
I admit that isn’treally what people do with a TP run where the idea is to gain as many TPs for the cheapest cost. Though to be fair to OP he wasn’t actually starting the TP run until he got to AUH. YMMV

I would disagree that it was not lacking in detail as, until I read your explanation of it, the original post did not make sense to me (it does now after reading your interpretation and looking back).
Even with that explanation though, it does not fit with the thread title. It is not actually a tier point run question as I understand it, more a question of what routes/airlines do people thing are preferential for a route if no other aspects are considered. So that may be the key issue that was causing people confusion when trying to understand/interpret what the OP was asking for.
Or am I missing something? Are we not going to ask why a TP run post with Air France (if that’s what it is) is on the BA section?
It is not just the typos but that nothing makes much sense.

I believe (per @jlo sleuthing) that there is “a TP Run from AUH to CGK via CMB on Sri Lankan”
~£800 for a return business class ticket with Sri Lankan from AUH to Jakarta CGK via Colombo, earning 560 tier points, available pretty much any day. Needs an overnight in Jakarta as you can’t “back-to-back” it onto the same plane, so £40-50 for the hotel and about £30 for the Indonesian e-visa or visa on arrival.
You can in theory do a back-to-back in AUH, but the AUH-CMB leg is usually on an A320 with regional seats, so you might want to go recover in a hotel for a night before doing the next trip!
Need to have a plan for what you’ll do if Sri Lankan cancel one of your flights (due to their aircraft shortages) and want to delay you to the next day. Also a plan (ideally good insurance plus long gaps) for what to do if you miss a connecting flight when changing tickets
Oh, and BA don’t fly to AUH, so you’ll need to connect or make your way to/from Dubai. Wizz have a bunch of aircraft in Abu Dhabi now, if you want to try and get down there on the cheap and you don’t have very much stuff
