Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Travelling Business Class on CX with D/P ticket

    Hi All

I’m a BA silver member travelling business to China in a few weeks and Cathay have issued me a D class ticket (outbound) and P class ticket inbound. I’ve read Rob’a article on how to net the avios for P class tickets via Qatar but I was wondering if I could use my BA FF number for the outbound flight and switch to my Qatar FF for my inbound flight? I saw an article on how to do this via the FinnAir website and after a bit of a play, it looks like it could work. Has anyone tried this? It’s important for me to still get some Tier points because I’ll need them to get the upgrade to Gold.

    Hi,

Yes, even though I had a reward booking on CX earlier this year so earning no Avios/TP but for some reason I had my QR number on the outbound but changed it to my BA one on the return. So see no issue on a revenue fare not being able to change it. The Cathay mobile App also lets you change your FF but not the website bizarrely

Please keep all boarding passes/screenshots and anything possible you may have for the P class ticket. I’ve been waiting 2 months to be credited to mr QR account from Cathay. Cathay appear to be dragging their heels according to Qatar, so keep all evidence you have just in case.

It seems you may be already, but for others’ benefit a reminder that if you credit P class on CX to BA you will receive no Tier Points.

I have had success in phoning CX reservations and having them reissue ticket into D fare bucket and the additional cost was very small luckily for when I did this, but it will depend on the dates, load, etc.

In addition to all the Finnair methods etc. you can also change the number at check-in by just asking the agent to do this.

Thanks for the feedback. I contacted Cathay and requested the change to a D class ticket and they said it would be a small fee of £1100….. Elected not to do it considering I’d have to justify that to my company and it probably would not go down well!

If the outbound has already posted, you can also just change the FFP at physical check in for the inbound, or the CX app as mentioned.
