Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Under-2’s in First – booking question

  • 322 posts

All. Hoping you all can help.

I’m looking at reward seats for us (myself, wife, 5yo and under-2yo) in First to the USA. I know under-2s can have their own seat if we want to book that, but they’d actually be a lap infant here. In the BA App rewards search function, searching for “two adults, one child” brings up a lot more results than “two adults, one child, one infant”.

    My question is:
    – is the app here assuming the infant would have their own seat (i.e. looking for 4 available seats, not three)? Or is there some restriction/limitation/ban on having lap infants in First (and they have to have their own seat)?

    TIA

Hi, not sure if you’re trying to use any amex voucher in combination with your booking. In my experiences with booking First, it was easy enough to just book for 2 adults (or in your case 2 adults + 1 child). Then called to add 1 infant. It is 10% in tax+fees (if I am not mistaken) and 10% avios. You can also have all details of your infant saved in your BAEC account so the CS agent can just pull it through. 🙂

Also since you will have booked First, you can call up YouFirst line which in my case got answered straight away.

    Hope this helps.

BA First cabins do have bassinets for infants, always consider that the bassinets may be on the small side.

The cabin is generally 8 seats only. You may get more options on A380 routes which are 14 seats.

    Thanks both.

Good to know bassinets exist (although ours will almost certainly be too big for a bassinet) as that suggests their own seat is not a requirement.

Yes, we were probably going to call (mostly so BA IT charges us the 10% rate), and there is (currently) three Avios seats on the route(s) we’re looking at; unsure what plane it is but that makes less of a difference to us Vs having availability.

The expected aircraft type is sometimes detailed near the flight number on BA.com.

BTW The maps on Aerolopa.com show bassinet positions.

Thanks. As I say, we won’t need an actual bassinet seat, and I’m less bothered by what type of plane we’re on. It’s more about confirmed availability for the three seats (and a flight time that works with the kids)
