We need to get out of the mindset that world revolves around London

    Good point.
However, Rob’s comment seems to suggest he was talking about UK firms paying £12k for flights from London to New York.
This feels odd to me given the way travel has changed in this country.
Are there really that many firms that still pay that?

I’m somewhat in two minds about this. I resent (to a small degree) the perceived penny pinching by BA here but I’ve never actually had any BA status myself so I haven’t lost anything. I mostly only travel short haul and generate enough Avios to never need to pay cash for flights in CE and if the lounges start to be less busy I wouldn’t complain as they are often unacceptably busy IMO.

Aston, the London based corporates may be stagnant or even shrinking since brexit, but for Americans, £12k is chicken feed.
I was on a BA flight from India and half the business class pax were families connecting to US, mostly working for tech companies. Average salaries in tech are USD 200k+.
We need to get out of the mindset that world revolves around London. Every corporate is trying to woo the Americans.
The question is would these people really be booking directly with BA or crediting to BA?

    $160k for a grad.
Who gives a toss about poor Brits.

The market for the best tech grads is madness in the US and on top of that you will get sign on and RSUs.

Even working in tech as I do, I still think £12k is madness for an airline ticket. I could not bring myself to pay that for one of those swanky first class ‘rooms’ to Oz let alone a 6 hour flight to the US. I will always be a the tight wad looking for free parking.

There’s still lots of firms willing to pay that. I work for an MBB and there are at least 100 in my office who will easily reach the new GGL numbers on BA. Same for our competitors. Law another area. I think the stalwarts are professional services. I’m always amazed at the number of people I recognise in my cabin(s)!
