In this article Rob mentions that BA will extend your tier point collection year by up to two weeks to allow you to reach a qualification threshold – does anyone know whether Virgin operates a similar policy? I suspect asking for the 24 days I need would be rather optimistic though…
I don’t think so as the VS scheme works on a rolling basis whereas BA is fixed years.
For accuracy BA don’t extend your collection year date as it’s fixed on the 8th of the month but they make a manual points adjustment
But I think the rolling period only applies before you have status – once you get status then you have 12 months to get enough tier points to retain it (which is my situation) according to this article.

This is correct. If you have the revenue flights booked in before your year ends, and you’re trying to renew or attain Gold, a call to Flying Club might yield a nice response.
In practice, a tier point year extension isn’t needed.
When you drop from Gold to Silver, the system resumes the rolling “12 month” period to try to re-upgrade you to Gold. In reality the “12 month” period looks back 12 months plus to the 1st day of that calendar month (or at least this is what used to happen) making it up to 13 months.
I dropped from Gold on 1 December one year but had a flight back from Melbourne to London on SQ which would re qualify me. The first leg left MEL on 30 Nov but the second leg was on 1 Dec. I dropped to Silver for a few days then the system upgraded me when the tier points hit as the system was totting up the points back to 1 Dec the previous year and they were now >1000. So it probably works as a subtle extension for up to 27/29/30 days.
I think there is a thread buried in the depths of Flyertalk or V-flyer on this as I was confused at the time. The FC website is pretty opaque on this. Hope that helps.
