Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Waldorf Astoria New York

  • SpectroMartin 14 posts

I’ve managed to book a room at the Waldorf Astoria New York on the lower end of the points redemption rate.

I am aware the hotel doesn’t open for guests until September and it’s a challenge to find answers about the rooms.

We basically need a room for two adults and a child. The room I booked is a Deluxe King Room which says it sleeps three. The description states that it has one king bed. There is no mention of a sofa bed and the photos show a sofa that does not look like a sofa bed. Am I correct in assuming that this will not be a three in a bed type situation?

I contacted Hilton Central and they gave me the hotel’s email address but I’ve had no reply. I asked central for more information but they said they can’t contact the hotel as they were not answering.

I’ve got another room booked at a different hotel so would just rather make a decision so that I can free up the points.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hotels will usually supply a rollway bed for a child (sometimes restricted to under 12’s), if you don’t want to share with them, but there can be a hefty fee for this.

Is there no option to book a room with 2 double beds with points? That way you’d know you had enough beds without incurring any extra costs.

Also, out of interest, what is the “resort” fee for this property?!

The only room with double beds are the mobility adapted rooms. It said I could book it, and I do have a bad back per se but not sure that I should be booking that one?

There’s no mention of a resort fee on the website or app but I am aware there might be one. I think this is usually waived when you pay with points? I don’t think we paid one with a points redemption at the Waldorf Orlando.

Couldn’t resist looking at this – most nights seem to require over 600k points! But there does seem to be a “Deluxe two doubles” option which would be ideal for you if available on your dates.

*Sorry just seen your reply! Yes, the resort fee should be waived, I was just being curious!

I got it for 150k per night for three nights and figured it was a “once in a lifetime” opportunity. There is a deluxe double mobility available for 150k points too and it lets me book with the statement saying you can book if no other suitable rooms available. I don’t know if this is frowned upon or will be cancelled though?

I guess the “standard” deluxe double has already been snapped up, so only the mobility one left?

Book the room most suitable, it’s likely the hotel will contact you nearer the time and ask if it’s absolutely necessary that you require the mobility adapted room, and just state it was the only suitable room available at the point of purchase. They should then offer to move you to the same type of room which is not adapted for no charge, and potentially a room upgrade.

I’ve booked like this at Hilton group hotels in the past, and on a first hand perspective never (so far) had any issues.

They are still talking about ‘spring’ so I suspect they want to open by June-ish. I saw a job ad this week for a restaurant supervisor for eg which is a bit early if they really think it will be September. I am hoping it is open by the time I go in June.

Are you going for leisure, or business? No reason, just curious.

Leisure trip, but I’ll only do it if I can get some content out of it!

Looking forward to your review, I’ve managed to find only one date to booked 5 nights in standard room.

Didn’t plan on going to NYC in December but now plans have changed.

Is there a phone number for the hotel you can call

Yes, I managed to speak to them. Deluxe King has one bed, no sofa-bed and a rollaway is $250 per night.

“a rollaway is $250 per night.”

That is taking the p*** to such a degree that I don’t know whether to be horrified or somehow impressed.

When I said “hefty fee” in my earlier post, I was thinking maybe $75! I think I’d be choosing a different hotel on principle, and name and shame the WA.

I think a blow-up airbed and a set of linens bought from Target/Walmart and then abandoned in the room when you checked out would be cheaper!

    NorthernLass 10,534 posts

    Or a sleeping bag!

I could have misheard but I am sure they said per night.

I did manage to get a double bed room for the same redemption rate so going to go with that.

They also said it was a provisional rate so don’t quote me on it!
