So… I had a 241 reward flight booking in First to Shanghai for March 2025. BA0169 & BA0168.
In the last hour I got the dreaded cancellation email, and I thought oh-oh… not another route in the bin?
Not quite sure what the situation is around this cancellation, but I was offered replacement flights on adjacent days so perhaps they are just cancelling some flights or reducing frequency. In any case, March wasn’t really an ideal choice for us in the first place as this was to be a birthday trip, and the birthday in question isn’t until the end of April.
First class reward flights have been so limited to Asia (honestly, non existent, I’ve had Seat Spy alerts set up for a year), so we had to make do.
Anyway, is it always the case that when a reward flight is cancelled, you can move to any other flight so long as there is a non-reward seat available? News to me. I had my choice of rebooking dates, and now have confirmed return tickets to Shanghai for exactly when I wanted them.
Great outcome. All we need now is no more cancellations please.
Yes doesn’t matter if it’s cash or Avios you can move them to any date which is operating and still has seats for sale
I am scheduled to fly PVG to LHR in Club in Feb 2025 (a replacement for the cancelled Virgin flights).
Today I received an email from BA “extending apologies and explaining the reasons behind the changes to your travel plans, which you will have received notice of in an earlier email”.
Some may think that it is good of BA to explain things like this – but I have not received an earlier email, and when I “manage my booking”, it doesn’t show any cancellation.
I will have to call BA.It appears that BA have cut the PVG / Shanghai service to three rotations per week (from six).
Probably due to a combination of 787 engine issues and poor sales. It’s a dependable route to get home from Australasia with Avios… I am dreading the new brunch menu in F on this 15 hour flight though.

We did that last year, old CW, bad old food. Eat in CX lounge first.

My emails arrived all back-to-front yesterday as well.
