Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Is the new Avis / Avios promotion worth it?

If you are a British Airways Executive Club member, you probably received an email promoting a new special offer with Avis.

Rent between 1 February and 17 March, and you will receive 6 Avios per £1 spent with a minimum of 1,000 Avios.

There are, of course, conditions attached:

Avis bonus avios

  • minimum 3 day rental
  • Group C car or above
  • you must use BA discount codes when booking

which will knock out a lot of people, and may not produce the cheapest rate compared to other discount codes to which you are entitled.

This offer is nowhere near as good as the Hertz deal I ran last week.  That offers 900 Avios per day with similar conditions, albeit you credit to Iberia and then move your Avios across to BA.

And, for short rentals, Virgin Atlantic offers 1,000 Flying Club miles for any Hertz, Avis or Alamo rental.  If you do a lot of one day rentals then this may be the best route to take – even if you don’t get enough to fly Virgin, you can convert 10,000 Virgin miles to 20,000 Hilton HHonors points.

    Missed that one! Thanks.

  • Matthew Hurley says:

I’m putting my Avis booking for my easter hols in Spain through the Iberia double Avios code, onto my Iberia Plus account. A 7 day car rental for £170 is going to net me 4,200 Avios! I would go with the Hertz deal as that would net me 6,300 Avios, but the rental is coming in at 50% more expensive than Avis. Beat that BA!
