30% bonus on transfers of HSBC Premier credit card points to Avios

I wrote last week about the launch of the new benefits package for HSBC Premier credit card customers.  This includes the ability to earn 1 Avios per £1 with their MasterCard.

(This is easily the higher MasterCard or Visa rate for cards currently available.  However, HSBC Premier has pretty tough restrictions on getting a card which will exclude a lot of people.)

If you do have a HSBC Premier card, the even better news is that there is a 30% bonus on Avios transfers from HSBC Premier until 30th November.

This means that you will have received 1.3 Avios per £1 on your spending, an excellent result for a non-Amex card.

HSBC Premier

The full terms are:

From 30th September until 30th November 2013, BA Executive Club will offer customers a 30% bonus when they transfer their reward points for Avios between these dates. Bonus Avios will be awarded at the same time as standard Avios, fourteen days after customers transfer their reward points to Avios.

As the transfer bonus runs for so long, there is still time to push some spending through your HSBC Premier card during October and transfer the points across before 30th November.

There is no bonus for Etihad, Asia Miles or KrisFlyer, it seems.

Great post – I had a bunch of HSBC points which I wanted to convert so good timing. Just tried doing the conversion on the HSBC website but there is no mention of the 30% bonus. Do you have the actual link to either HSBC or BA exec club which states that there is a 30% bonus?

I’ve sent you an email, as the link contains personal details

Can you send me the link as well please, i have just transfer 1 point and it stated 5 Avios points…

        • Rob says:

If you’ve already done the transfer, wait and see what arrives. Either the offer is targetted and you’re not in, so you get 5 Avios, or it isn’t targetted and you get 6 or 7, in which case you can do a bigger transfer.

The one person I know who has transferred found that they appeared in 48 hours at Avios, so you may know tomorrow anyway.

    Hi Raffles,

Did it update automatically on your screen at HSBC?

Mine is still showing 1 to 5.

I don’t have a credit card on my Premier account. However, in general transfer bonuses do not show on the originators home page.

The easiest thing to do is send a couple of points across, and see what arrives at BA. I know that the bonuses are being added immediately, so if you get one then you are fine to make a bigger transfer. If you don’t get one, you’ve not lost anything if you transfer 2 points!

Made the transfer on the 6th, appeared along with the 30% bonus on the 9th, did not receive any email regards the 30% bonus, believe its open to all.
