Get £5 off £40 Amazon spend when you pay with American Express

Here is a very nice little deal which will come in handy in the run up to Christmas – although I would take advantage ASAP because there is a quota.
Amazon is offering a £5 discount on a £40 purchase when you use code AMEX5OFF in the ‘Gift Cards & Promotional Codes’ box at check out.
There are few restrictions:
This offer is open to all American Express Cards with the exception of American Express Gift Cards and Prepaid products. The code must be used for a single order and is valid for one time usage only. Offer cannot be used towards the purchase of baby items, ebooks and Gift Certificates. Offer is limited to first 12,000 American Express Cardmembers.
If you are entitled to rewards points on your American Express Card, such as Membership Rewards® or frequent flyer points, you will only receive those points on the value of the qualifying transaction minus the Offer (for example the qualifying transaction is £40 and the offer is £5 credit, you will only get points on £35 of that transaction).
This offer is restricted to the first 12,000 customers. It started on 30th October, although as it has not been widely promoted yet you should be OK for a few days.
Whilst the rules are not clear, I think that ANY Amex card is OK, whether or not it is issued directly by American Express.
Note also these additional rules:
Offer only applies to items purchased and dispatched from Amazon. It does not apply to purchases made from Amazon’s Warehouse Deals, from third-party sellers at Amazon’s Marketplace platform (i.e., purchase of items that are sold on the website by third parties) or at any of Amazon’s Trusted Partner sites, or from Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, Amazon.es, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.cn, Amazon.com.br or Amazon.ca.
Offer is available only to customers located in and with billing addresses in the United Kingdom who have an American Express card associated with their Amazon account or add an American Express card as an additional payment option on the select a payment method page. If for any reason your American Express card is inactive, denied or ineligible, you will not be able to use the Code.
You can visit Amazon here – this is our affiliate link which pays Head for Points a small commission when you order, for which I am grateful.
