my wife had over 20,00 points in the amex account. her spg number was linked and shows on the statement. the points didn’t make it to spg. now the amex site and spg sites show zero balances and she’s been told the points will transfer during February when the next statement is issued.

  • stuartB says:

I just referred a friend. On the AMEX referral site it said he would get 21k points and I would receive 5k for referral.

When he applied it then said

“Because you were invited by Stuart , earn 11,000 bonus Starpoints when you spend £1,000 in the first three months.”

Looks like the offer may have already reduced ?

    • Frenske says:

A £1,000 spend target is much easier than the £2,000 in 3 months. Normally I don’t spend that much on AmEx unless I travel for work (3-4 times per year) and I don’t buy regularly a new fridge.

  • ComeFlyWithMe123 says:

It does appear that the offer has now been reduced to 10,000 🙁

  • Jorge says:

Another one to join the club. I spent the 2k needed in a just week in December and have been waiting since then for my points to be transferred to SPG, despite they’ve been showing in Amex? I’m going to call Amex today to put some pressure on it..

  • Jorge says:

Is there a way to check if the SPG and Amex accounts are correctly linked?

    • Idrive says:

      Check with amex

    • stuartB says:

It says on your statements which SPG membership number your Amex SPG is linked to. Mine had not been set up correctly – I called last week – they apologised, linked the accounts, and gifted me 5k SPG points.

    • Rob says:

Ring Amx and ask which SPG number the points are going to

  • Sandgrounder says:

We had a problem recently. Mrs had the SPG for ten months, all points swept no problem. Then, she gets a 5k bonus for recommending me, and the points just vanish at the end of the month. We did a little spend and the next month’s normal points arrived OK! I emailed Amex and had an online chat with SPG, points arrived after ten days.

    • Rob says:

If you do not spend on the card during a month, there is an issue with referral points not going across and just disappearing.

  • Adam says:

I appied on 12 Jan – hit my £2k spend already and had the 20,000 points added – just waiting for them to be transferred to the starpoints account and then straight out into my BAEC.

I have points in my Amex account through my gold card – is it worth waiting on those until they have a bonus?

    • Raffles says:

Yes, if you aren’t cancelling Gold and don’t need the Avios, it is better to wait just in case a bonus comes along.

  • Keith Jenner says:

Just to echo the post above about missing SPG points.

I took out the card in December and hit the spend in that month. The points all posted to Amex and then disappeared. They never hit my SPG account and after I queried it (by email) they were returned and I was told that it should work OK this month. Meanwhile, my wife also took out a card and her points also disappeared (only about 1,000 points).

Amex have confirmed that they have the correct SPG account numbers and they say that SPG rejected my wifes transfer although they haven’t received the points back again yet.

My account cleared out again yesterday, which is the date Amex said the monthly transfer would be made. However, I’m not confident they will appear with SPG.

One thing I noticed is that, on my BA account, the transfer to BAEC always shows up on the points transaction list each month, but there has never been anything on the transaction list for the SPG transfer. Just the balance reducing to zero.

Is it possible for anyone who has a working SPG Amex to see whether they have anything on their transaction list for the transfer going out. It would be an indication as to whether the problem is really with Amex or SPG.

With Amex, I think we can be confident we will get the points eventually, but it would be good to get it sorted.
