New American Express deals for airport and High Street shopping launched

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The Christmas shopping season is starting to get into gear and the special offers are starting to appear.  You have probably received a letter or email about the main American Express deals, although I have recapped them at the bottom of this list.

What you may not have seen, though, are these new deals which are only valid for airport shopping.

American Express at airports

Via the shopping tab at the Amex cardmember offers site, you can register for:

Café Nero – £5 cashback when you spend £10 at Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted

Ted Baker – £10 cashback when you spend £65 at Heathrow and Gatwick

Sunglass Hut – £10 cashback when you spend £30 at Heathrow and Gatwick

Dixons – £10 cashback when you spend £30 at  Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Stansted and Edinburgh

Harrods – £10 cashback when you spend £65 at Heathrow and Gatwick

Fortnum & Mason – £10 cashback when you spend £65 at Heathrow T5

WH Smith – £5 cashback when you spend £10 at Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Stansted and Edinburgh

There is also a World Duty Free offer in the main Christmas promotion as you will see below.

Most of these deals run until the end of January.  The WH Smith and Dixons one are particularly interesting.  Café Nero is a tricky place to spend £10 in one transaction unless you stock up on snacks!

General Amex Christmas offers

Amex launched a huge range of High Street discount deals this week.  You will find a selection of these on your online statement pages on the Amex website and you can also register via the cardmember offers website.

This is a selection of what is available.  Most expire on December 14th.  Remember that you MUST register individually for each offer.

House of Fraser – £20 cashback on £100

Fenwick / Bentalls – £10 cashback on £70

Debenhams – £10 cashback on £50

Laura Ashley – £20 cashback on £100

The White Company – £20 cashback on £100

Dell – £100 cashback on £699

Milli Millu – 10% cashback

Rigby & Peller – 10% cashback

Argos – £10 cashback on £100

Heal’s – £15 cashback on £150

World Duty Free – £10 cashback on £65 (runs to January)

All of these deals should be available across MBNA, Barclays and Lloyds Amex cards as well as directly issued ones.

Finally, Virgin Flying Club is offering double miles on specific merchants at its Shops Away shopping portal.  Participating shops are House of Fraser (so you could double up with the Amex deal above), Selfridges, John Lewis, Apple, Net A Porter, M&S, Currys and asos.  You can visit the Shops Away site here.

  • Think Square says:

I’m getting mixed messages on the WHS offer. “The Offer” says “Spend £10 or more at WH Smith in one transaction by 31 January 2015 and get £5 statement credit.” but the caption and smallprint says “Spend £30 or more, get a £10 credit at WH Smith”.

  • rotundo says:

The “Amex Shop Small” offer is also worth a mention: see http://www.amexshopsmall.co.uk
Basically you get £5 statement credit when you spend £10 in participating small retailers between 6 and 21 December – once per retailer but the number of retailers is unlimited! Unfortunately the map to find the participating retailers doesn’t work for me – anyone else having more luck?

    • Fenny says:

No luck at all when I tried the other day. Might have another go tomorrow, but if it’s too much hassle, I CBA.

      • grex9101 says:

It’s a clusterfuck. It’s simply broken. That said, using Chrome seems to work marginally better. I’m hoping that they’re still working it on it seeing as it’s three weeks odd to go.

  • neil says:

Does anyone know if Cafe Nero sell gift cards at the airport locations?

    • pazza2000 says:

I’m wondering this as well for Nero, hard to spend £10 in one go but £10 for £5 on a GC sounds nice. From memory WHS airport branches do sell giftcards.

  • Alba says:

Argos are currently running an offer, if you spend over £100 you get a £10 Argos gift card. Over £50 and it’s a £5 card.

    • Stu says:

I’ve just come back from Argos with £100 of giftcards but never received an additional £10 Argos card. Forgot to ask.

      Perhaps giftcard purchases are ineligible?

      • Matthew says:

You are quite right….gift card are not eligible for the £10 free voucher.

  • grex9101 says:

Forgive ethernet stupid question, but what’s the benefit in buying visa gift cards at argos?

    • jonboy says:

I think they are talking about using it to hit a spend target. for example 10k for a 241 or bonus miles on new card spend.

      • grex9101 says:

I presumed so as well. Otherwise, I don’t think the hassle for 100/200 points would be worth it.

  • Ralph says:

I don’t know if this is covered elsewhere so apologies if it is, I have been busy with other stuff.

Your linked Tripadvisor and Amex account is now offering £50 credit if you spend £150 through American Express travel. The offer expires 18th December but the Amex rep I just spoke with says that the actual travel/car hire/hotel can be booked through 2015, if someone can verify this that would be great.

    Terms are as follows:

Offer available to UK Cardmembers. Save this offer to your Card to get a £50 statement credit when you spend a £150 or more on your connected Card at americanexpress.co.uk/travel before 11:59 (GMT in the UK) on 18 December 2014.
Offer only applies to prepaid hotels, flights, car hire and experiences booked through americanexpress.co.uk/travel and cannot be combined with other offers. This offer is not applicable to Fine Hotels and Resorts reservations which are paid directly to the hotel upon check out.
You must connect your American Express Card to TripAdvisor to be eligible to save and redeem this offer.
Only one £50 statement credit per connected Card.
Your Card must remain connected until the statement credit is applied*.
Statement credit may be reversed if the qualifying transaction is refunded or cancelled*.

    • Scottnothing says:

My £50 for £150 spend via Amex travel credited this morning. So did £5 from the TFL promotion on two separate cards. Tis the season! 🙂

  • Danny says:

With the high street stores such as Debenhams, do the purchases need to be made in a single transaction or can the £50 spend be split over different receipts as long as they are done by the deadline?

    • Rob says:

Varies by deal but annoyingly you are rarely told. For safety assume one transaction unless specifically stated otherwise.

  • Steven says:

hi does anyone know if the world duty free offer will work at world of whiskys?

    • squills says:

Should do, same group. Contact address is
      World Duty Free
      Customer Support Team
      Runnymede Warehouse
      Windsor Road
      Egham
      Surrey
      TW20 0AE
      United Kingdom

    • Alan says:

Yep – at least in LHR T2 they don’t seem to have their own cash desk anyway and you pay at the WDF counter.

    • TimS says:

      I wouldn’t be too sure.

It depends how it codes on your account. Just because two outlets are in the same group doesn’t necessarily mean it will track the same.
