  • Paddy says:

I have just signed up for the IHG credit card however Barclays have said they may need some more info before fully agreeing the application which could take up to 5 days.

If this period takes me over the 31st March deadline will I still get the triple points deal?

    • Jason says:

My wife got the same screen shot, they didn’t need any further info and the card arrived 8 days later.
I suspect, as you applied prior to 31st March, you will be ok.
I got the same screen shot this week.
Barclaycard seem to like high credit limits!

      • Paddy says:

Hopefully I’ll see the card soon then!

        • Leo says:

Same here – I applied, screen said same as you say, then shortly after I got a text saying card was on its way – card duly arrived; it was very quick about 3 days?

    • Rob says:

Yes, will go off application date as you cannot control the rest of the process.

  • Matthew says:

1st April – Iberia devaluation. Or for me… The date a business seat gets cheaper in one of the new off peak sweet spot bands 🙂

  • whiskerxx says:

I had a useful email prompt from Kaligo about the end of their promotion. It triggered a response and I immediately searched for a week stay in Mexico planned for October. The hotel of choice would have generated 31,000 Avios for the stay. Unfortunately the cost was £540 more than the best online price I could find for the same accommodation. Not impressed.

    • Matthew says:

Drop them a line and ask for a price match. Rumour tells me they won’t but instead may offer you even more avios to tempt you to book. Worth a try….

  • Adamsdown says:

You say that Monday 20th April is the end of IHG’s “Set Your Sights” promotion but I understood that it ran until 30th April – and have booked 2 nights in France for 24th/25th April in order to meet 2 of my targets. Has there been some change in the promotion run-dates or have I read it wrong?

  • John G says:

I was rejected instantly for the IHG card, grrr. Never had any problems with other cards. Such a shame this card can’t be issued by MBNA or Amex who value my business. Barclays obviously don’t!

    • Cv3v says:

If it was instant it could be due to the automated processes, even a slight difference in your address can cause a problem. Worth a call.

      • Gill A says:

Same happened to me. Rang and was told that I was at my credit limit with my other Barclaycard cards (one of them has a £15,000 credit limit). Was told that there was no mechanism for reducing the limits on other cards that I don’t use in order for the IHG one to be accepted and even if I did cancel or lower the limits the block on my account would be there for 3 months.
I think that this is the first time I’ve ever been refused a card – came as a bit of a shock.

  • Lloyd says:

Dont bother with the Thistle deal if you are booking in advance as my experience is that they will not charge the card. I have even called the hotel and of course they say they will do the charge but dont. Seriously thinking about cancelling a non cancellable booking on the basis they are breaking their own T&C.

    • Rob says:

My gut feeling is that Amex will give you the £50 anyway if you complain.

      • Brian says:

The offer page says ‘book and stay by 12 April’. I don’t see how they are breaking their own T&C, therefore, and so I suspect it will depend on what kind of a person responds to your ‘complaint’ at AMEX – as far as I understand, there is no reason why they should give you the £50 if you are not staying by 12 April. If you are, then it’s not a problem anyway.

        • Lloyd says:

I have moaned to Amex so see what happens.

Brian – Not sure whether your posted was aimed at me or Raffles. Thistle most certainly are breaking their own T&C: My booking says the following:

Advance Purchase Exc Vat Room Only Non Refundable and Full Credit Card Payment taken at time of booking

          Payment Guarantee:
Thank you for your reservation. Your card (XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX) will be charged within 48 hours.

Completely concede that AMEX are not breaking their own T&C though. If I dont get the credit then I will just put something in writing to their registered office that I consider the contract void. Then call Amex an get a new card sent out so it cant be charged. Dont mind staying at Thistle for £60 inc two weeks parking, but certainly not for £110 as there are far better alternatives at Heathrow for that kind of money and would never have booked had I known this is what would happen.

    • Allan says:

I made two advanced bookings and both credited within a few days of booking rather than after the stay.

  • Marlene says:

The set your sight deal is amazing! I am lucky that I will get all my targets and earn the bonus thanks to booking stays in california for 2 weeks this april and i also applied for the IHG barclayscard. They seem to be more inclined to give it to you if you do a balance transfer!

  • Tariq says:

    VS Tesco bonus

So do we reckon that it’s worth waiting for a BAEC bonus? I’ve been holding out but with nearly £100 of Tesco vouchers and 111K already in VS, I feel like jumping in now (or even hedging my bets and converting half)…

    • Rob says:

If you have no plans to use them, I would be wary of a devaluation before I could use them.
