Bits: get 5% off Emirates, Google Street View on SAS, HotelTonight promo

News in brief:

Get 5% off all Emirates bookings

Until 31st May, Emirates is offering 5% off all of its UK departures – apparently in all classes – with promotional code UKVOUCH.

31st May is the final booking date and not the final travel date, which can be as far in the future as you want.

The discount is off the ex-taxes prices.  For an economy flight, where taxes make up a high percentage of the cost, this means that the actually discount is likely to be nearer to 3% at a guess.  Better than nothing though ….  Book at emirates.com as usual and enter the code on the booking page.

Google Street View comes to SAS aircraft

SAS has launched a Google Street View tour of its new long-haul aircraft.  Click here to take a look.  The 1-2-1 business class seating doesn’t look at all bad.

HotelTonight multi-night savings

Online hotel booking app HotelTonight – which ONLY lets you book rooms for the next seven days, usually at discounted prices – is offering a discount on longer bookings.

For bookings made by April 21st, you save £20 off a 2-night stay of £135 with code SLEEP2, £30 off a 3-night stay of £170 with code SLEEP3 and £40 off a 4-night stay of £200 with code SLEEP4.

This cannot be combined for the £15 credit you receive as a first time user using my sign-up code of RBURGESS15 but it may be a better deal.  The app now covers over 500 cities worldwide, mainly in Europe and North America.

Emirates discount may be targeted as I got an email yesterday for 15% off in either business or economy.

    • Eshaq Choudhury says:

Same here. It looks like a unique code so probably targeted. Too bad I don’t have any upcoming emirates flights.

Just got an email from Heathrow Rewards offering fast-track to silver with Etihad…

I’m going to be in Boston/DC/NYC next month. Does anyone know of any Uber or Hailo codes for use in any of these places? I’ll be a new user.

OT bits: Etihad Guest credit card 25k bonus promo. Applied for card via 25k bonus link on Etihad website. Cards arrived today but accompanying letter stated only 5k points for £250 spend. I called to query this with MBNA cs; they claimed offer applied to my account was different again – 10k bonus points for £4000 spend. Disputed this, was advised to raise it with Etihad Guest Amid clIms from MBNA agent Etihad were responsible for crediting points. Following an argument about that she went off to discuss with her manager. on here return she reaffirmed 10k miles for £4000 spend. I again disputed and said I could forward screenshot. She then laomed that had I read the t&c ZI would have seen that offers ard subject to status. Surely by that they mean only APR? I certai ly have never been offered anything other than advertised offer. Has any ody else experienced difficulties with Etihad 25k offer? Would appreciate any advice on what to do next, thanks.

    • Rob says:

That is nonsense. They cannot change the bonus points limit unilaterally. I would make a written complaint to MBNA first and then follow up with the Ombudsman afterwards.

      • James67 says:

Thanks Rob, that was my inclination and I have now done so. I kept my communication light, and just asked them if the problem might have been due to an error in the system or misinformed agent, and could they confirm that I will receive the offer I applied for (which I checked and is still active). I will report back on the outcome although I doubt that will be before close of business on Tuesday.

      • Mark says:

I noticed my letter also gave the standard 5000 points for a £250 spend when I received the cards yesterday. I definitely followed the link to the page that was offering 25k.

I assumed it was just a standard letter that they hadn’t bothered to update but will certainly be keeping a close eye on it.

        • Matthew says:

I got the standard 5000 point letter too but phoned today and they said I was on the 25,000pt offer as expected and it was ‘old’ material that the cards came with. They have now updated the mbna offer details too as when I applied, the offer was being advertised on Etihad’s site only.

        • James67 says:

In the past I have received standard letters and gone on to get the enhanced benefits. When this happens I call to check that I will get the bigger bonus before I use the card. Today was the first time they failed to confirm I would. On reflection I suspect a system glitch or poorly trained (perhaps new) cs representative. Time will tell.

  • Rob says:

It is a bit scary – if you were by the window the fuselage curves in under your feet so you probably can’t put your feet straight in front of you but would need to put your feet to the side.

  • Waribai says:

Very weird. The PC site say 1% but the mobile site says 50%!
I think they might have reduced it today!

  • Fenny says:

Anyone know if it’s possible to transfer UK Amex MR points to JetBlue? On the Trueblue site, it says Amex are partners and you can transfer MR points, but it wants a US zip code for confirmation. On the UK Amex site, they aren’t listed for transfers. I want to book a couple of flights and it would be nice to use MR points.

    • Alan says:

Not an option for UK cards I’m afraid – the MR scheme has slightly different partners and exchange rates for each country – unsurprisingly the one in the USA is most generous! (1:1 to BA with frequent transfer bonuses and higher accrual rate than we have, plus no forex fees!)
