News in brief:

Hilton EMEA sale ending soon

The Hilton EMEA sale which covers the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa ends on 31st January. The special landing page is here.

Whilst it is nominally called the Winter Sale, you can book for any weekend between now and the end of 2017.  The sale offers a discount of up to 30% off the standard Best Available Rate if you are a Hilton HHonors member, albeit that sale rates require prepayment and are non-refundable.  You receive a smaller discount (25%) if you are not logged in.  This offer is for all Hilton Group hotels, including Hampton, Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria etc.

Malaysia Airlines £1500 Sydney / Melbourne deal still available

If you have been thinking about a trip down under then you still have a couple of days to jump on this excellent deal from Malaysia Airlines.

Via Expedia, you can book London to Sydney or Melbourne in Malaysia Airlines business class for just £1,500 return.

To get this price you MUST book a ‘flight and hotel’ package.  If you select the cheapest hostel option for just one night (select ‘I only want a hotel for part of my trip’) it will cost exactly £1,507 for one person to Sydney.  You do not need to stay in the hostel and your return flight will not be cancelled if you don’t turn up.

Remember that Malaysia Airlines is a oneworld alliance member so your flights earn Avios and British Airways tier points.  Australia would be 600 tier points return (140 + 160 + 160 + 140) which is a BA Silver card, albeit you’d still need to have flown 4 BA flights in your current card year before you were upgraded.

Between London and Kuala Lumpur you will get an A380, with an A330 onwards on most routes.  The A330 business class seat is the latest version and has some very attractive solo window seats as the seating plan on this page of the Malaysia website shows.

Bangkok, Phuket and Bali are also available for around £1,100 return.

You may want to try other Asian destinations too.

Pop over to Expedia and have a play around.  It is VERY easy to find dates later in the year – note that the maximum possible stay is 25 days from departure.  You must travel by 26th November 2017.

  • Stu R says:

So, to clarify Rob, to gain BA Silver, you need 600 TP’s and 4 BA flights. Suppose I get the 600 TP’s first, then do the 4 flights after …. does this still get Silver as long at it’s in the same collection period?

    • Rob says:

      Yes

    • Rebecca says:

I have this booked already, off to Sydney in May. Am doing a day return to Paris tomorrow to get me on my way to my four flights so I get silver status straight away. Not a bad day out either!

    • Nick says:

Can I ask, if I buy this flight direct with Malaysian from their website, is it attributed to my BA Executive account by using my BA account number when I book or do I transfer points and flights later to gain this status?

      • Rob says:

You add your BA number when booking (or via phone later, or at check in). Avios and TP go directly to BA.

You cannot get this price direct though. It must be booked via Expedia in the way I describe.

  • Tony says:

@Stu R – correct. Doesn’t matter which comes first so long as in same collection year

  • Mike says:

Rob – Conflicting info above – does the APAC sale end on 31 Jan or 20 Jan? You quote each above. I just went to the APAC site and couldn’t see any reference to the sale?

  • Anon says:

Think APAC is inaccurate, thought it was EMEA.

I flagged up in the comments on another post a few days before the 20th that the APAC sale was coming to an end. There’s often a 4 day flash sale that happens about every 3 months..

  • Anon says:

There’s a juicy HH promo coming next week, stay tuned to Rob covering it when the registration page goes live.

    • Genghis says:

@Anon you seem in the know – will the HH promo run over Easter? Could do with a decent points haul from my cash stays.

      • Anon says:

Believe so, it’s from Feb til end of April & an extra 2000 points per NIGHT! 🙂

Also valid on redemptions with most hotels participating.

Lauren (from Hilton) announced it on FT..

Like I say Rob will be running it once we can activate it.

Hot on the heels of the 5k Visa promo and triple points using the App, there’s no wonder my IHG Accelerate challenge doesn’t get a look in.

ps Thumbs up for Newcastle Airport Doubletree successfully resolving a few niggles I had when I stayed the other wknd.

      • Alan says:

2k per night, no property exclusions, worldwide was the chat from Loyaltylobby (which presume got it from FT). Decent deal!

      • Wilbur says:

This was actually covered by Loyaltylobby.com two days ago (along with the corresponding press release) so that’s probably where Anon is getting their information.

      • Lady London says:

Think i might have had this advertised to me when I checked my booking for this weekend on their website earlier this week.

  • Kirill says:

Booked Bali for Easter, going to travel around the islands a little bit and a 7 day stay at Courtyard in Seminiyak as well.

Booked KL in economy using the Expedia trick, funnily enough, the economy Malaysia Airlines flights were just as much as taxes on the economy redemption!

Just booked the DT for the last night before our flight from KL, thanks for the tip Rob.

Just out of curiosity, how much should the KUL-DPS flights cost with AirAsia? Wondering if it is worthwhile to wait for a sale of theirs, perhaps for Lunar New Year.

    • Graeme says:

There could be a sale around Nyepi (Balinese ‘new year’-type day), although you’d have to wait for the end of March for that.

    • Genghis says:

We paid IDR 2,449,800 ages ago for two people single DPS-KUL at the end of April with the premium flex package (seats, meal, luggage etc).

      • Genghis says:

Kicking out at IDR 2,598,000 for same flights now so only saved a few quid booking ages ago. Oh well.

        • Sam G says:

Air asia flights don’t seem to change in price much even close in, except on peak dates.

Bali is one of the more expensive routes.

They do have frequent sales and also download the app as there is quite often a 20% off base fare promo code that’ll they send you a notification for

          • Polly says:

Just booked air Asia two days before leaving da nang, same price as ages ago.. Weird. V smooth flight to KUL today. Leaving on QR late tomorrow night. NY fireworks here in KLCC. Great views of towers.

        • Anon says:

About the same for early next year for me too.

How easy is it to get to the other terminal for a BA flight to LHR??

    • scott says:

Hello, from Seminyak! I just walked past the Courtyard this morning, looked Ok from what I remember but this was around 4AM. Have a great trip!

      • Kirill says:

Cheers for the tips guys, will book this weekend then. Looking forward to the trip!

    • Shaun M says:

Try Malindo Air for DPS-KUL (or vice versa) and they fly from KLIA main terminal

  • Andrew H says:

Does that Hilton offer ending today still include the 5000 points if you book with VISA? Or was that offer only for stays up to today?

    • John says:

The 5000 points for paying with visa is valid for any stays where you check out by 31st Jan

It is separate to any other offers

  • Shaz says:

Thanak for the thumbs up I’m trying BKK or Phuket for early Feb and end Feb just keep getting an error message cannot find any flights on my dates
    Very strange …

    • Barry says:

Me too, various destinations/dates all give “cannot find any flights”
