Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Win two tickets to (just about) anywhere with Qatar Airways and Head for Points

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

For the next couple of weeks – until 4th June – we are running a great competition in association with Qatar Airways.

One lucky Head for Points reader will win two Economy Class tickets to their choice of Qatar Airways destination.

Whilst the tickets are Economy Class, your booking will be flagged for an upgrade to Business Class subject to availability at check-in.  The upgrade will be at the discretion of the check-in staff and so, for simplicity, we are describing the prize as two Economy Class tickets.  Hopefully, though, you will end up in something better.

Qatar 350

A lot has been happening with Qatar Airways lately and there seems no end to it:

Qatar Airways is a member of the oneworld alliance.  This means that you will earn Avios points and British Airways tier points when you fly with Qatar Airways, and can also redeem Avios points for Qatar Airways services.

We have reviewed Qatar Airways business class on its 777, 787 and A380 incarnations, as well as A380 First Class, and genuinely believe that it deserves its reputation as one of the very best products out there.  The new Qsuite in Business Class. launching very soon, will set the bar even higher.

Competition

There is one pair of Economy return tickets on Qatar Airways to (pretty much) anywhere to be won with a possible / hopeful upgrade to Business Class on the day.

There are some restrictions on how and where you can go:

Your trip must start and finish in the UK (London, Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh). Connecting flights are not included.

You cannot backtrack from Doha. This means that North American destinations, for example, are excluded.  The decision of Qatar Airways on what it considers backtracking will be final.

You can only book flights operated by Qatar Airways.  Codeshares are not included.

Tickets are strictly non-transferrable. The winner MUST be one of the passengers and both tickets must be booked for travel together.

The winner must book the trip by 20th March 2018 and complete their travel within three months of booking.

There is no guarantee that Qatar Airways will be able to offer the exact date, flight and destination you request. Flexibility may be required, especially at peak periods.

The tickets are Economy tickets with possible upgrade to Business Class at the check-in desk, subject to availability.  This upgrade is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the check-in agents.  Travelling at off-peak periods will maximise your chances of being upgraded.

You are responsible for arranging transfers, accommodation, visas, innoculations, insurance etc for your trip

You will not have to pay any taxes or charges for your tickets

Your tickets will not earn any frequent flyer miles or status points

The full list of rules are in the Gleam widget.

The competition will remain open until 4th June.

O2 priority running the same competition

    • Rob says:

I’m honoured that we appear be seen as important to Qatar Airways as O2!

(For clarity, it will be a separate competition with its own winner. And your chances of winning are probably better with us!)

      • Yuff says:

Actually Rob, you are more important to me than o2 😉
To be fair o2 didn’t work, where we moved to 3 years ago, and had to change to EE.
But the sentiment is still the same 🙂

  • Robert says:

I am in the Netherlands, and I get this message “Sorry, this promotion is not available in your region”….

    • Rob says:

‘You must be a resident of the United Kingdom and must be accessing this website from inside the UK’

That said, as long as you are a UK resident I will overlook it if you use Tunnelbear etc to enter. Or wait until you are back here, it runs for 2 weeks.

  • chris1922 says:

I’m told “I’ve already logged into Gleam”, and cant continue beyond that. Any fixes ?

      Clear your cookies / history

Actually there now appears to be a “logout” button on the gleam registration page – can you see that on your screen?

  • Adam says:

Hi Rob – great job with the site as usual. I think this competition would be more appealing/targetted if the flights were business or at least premium economy (which I am aware Qatar do not currently offer)… as I would imagine most of your readers do not aspire to fly economy. It certainly doesn’t appeal to me and I love reading your site often and find it very useful – perhaps something to consider going forward?

    • James A says:

I assume it’s up to QR what they offer as a prize?

      • Raffles says:

We had this discussion in the comments on Saturday. Whilst I understand your sentiments, what we have negotiated with Qatar is the best we were going to get. Note that Qatar is getting nothing out of this – they are not getting the email list of entrants, for example, and they are not publicising any specific deal – and it is a prize worth £1,000+ so still worth having for many people.

There is a decent chance that the winner will end up in Business Class although I accept that the lack of certainty might make the winner think twice before deciding on Sydney, Auckland etc. If the winner chooses, say, Dubai, they would be able to fly on day flights in both directions and I think even the most hardened HFP reader would take 2 x totally free Y tickets to Dubai on day flights (with a chance of an upgrade at check in) against 120,000 Avios and a BA Amex 2-4-1 voucher and £1,100 in taxes and charges for 2 x BA Business Class seats. The last time I flew long-haul economy (1999!) was on a totally free ticket after a friend gave me a BA gift voucher that was about to expire!

        • Lou says:

I’m not complaining! I’ll take free tickets, even with my knees positioned under my chin 😀

        • Peter K says:

We did have this discussion on Saturday but it’s still a good competition. I’m sure whoever wins it will be chuffed!
Don’t forget the Avios comp run a little while ago where the winner was meant to get economy flights to NY (they changed it to Club at the last minute). They had adverts in the underground etc for that. This is not getting that much publicity so is still great!

    • Gareth says:

So obviously Adam isn’t going to enter the competition thus increasing the chance of others winning…

    • The Original Nick. says:

I’ll fly economy if it’s free via a competition from HFP’s.

  • Kathy says:

Well, I’ve entered. Not actually sure where I’d go if I won, but I’m sure I’d think of something!

  • s says:

Hi good prize but just to confirm

“”Your trip must start and finish in the UK (London, Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh). Connecting flights are not included.””

Does this mean the only flights available are the direct flights from UK? therefore only to Middle east.

Cheers – great prize and website.

    • John says:

Presume it means connecting flights to LHR/BHX/MAN/EDI otherwise there would be no need for the subsequent clause “You cannot backtrack from Doha. This means that North American destinations, for example, are excluded…”

      • Rob says:

Correct. You can go anywhere you want (subject to backtracking etc) but you will be changing planes in Doha and need to start from any of the UK airports served by Qatar Airways.

It is even possible the winner could fly from Cardiff but as we don’t know the exact date in 2018 they are starting services we left that out.

What is means is that if you live in Exeter and want to fly from Manchester, Qatar isn’t going to pay for a Flybe flight to get you from Exeter to Manchester.

  • Barras says:

If I enter it says I have to sign in with a social network, I don’t think I would be comfortable associating a social network login (if you have one) with a competition entry without absolute clarity as to how that data will be used. Never had that as a mandatory before to ‘verify identity’…

    • Rob says:

This is probably because you have previously entered a Gleam competition using a social network (possibly even one of ours in the past which offered a second entry in return for a tweet).

If you use a different email address it should bypass that option.

  • aceman says:

do you have to travel as a couple or can you use both tickets yourself at different times?

    • Jonty says:

Do you have to give the plane back or do you get to keep it?

    • TGLoyalty says:

“Tickets are strictly non-transferrable. The winner MUST be one of the passengers and both tickets must be booked for travel together.”

    • Rob says:

Both people on the same plane at the same time.
