News in brief:

How you can stop the next British Airways IT meltdown

After losing an estimated £80m due to the total IT failure a couple of months ago, British Airways has a plan.  Maybe you know someone who can help.

Business Resilience Executive

Are you interested in working on crisis management, emergency response and business continuity across British Airways? If so, the role of Business Resilience Executive could be for you.

This new position offers a fantastic opportunity to join the Business Resilience team in a challenging role that will require you to work with colleagues across the whole of British Airways.

You will be responsible for the administration and development of the team’s resilience plans, processes, learning portfolio, communications, facilities and technology. As such, you will be a core member of the team that helps ensure the airline is in a constant state of readiness to deal with any disruptive event – through both planning ahead and responding appropriately.

This role will allow you to develop a great understanding of the wider airline and partner operation and build personal and organisational resilience in the face of the most challenging situations.

Key skills presumably involve a) stopping weekend contractors pressing the big red ‘off’ button at the data centre and b) making sure Alex Cruz’ hi-viz vest is ready for use at all times.  Apply on ba.com here.  Thanks to Marc.

That odd email from Amex …..

If you have a British Airways American Express card, you probably got an email from Amex yesterday asking you to sign up for a new cashback deal.

All you had to do was spend £20 across WH Smith, Ocado, Shell and the Post Office, in as many transactions as you like, and you received 500 bonus Avios.

There was a button to ‘save to your card’, but it didn’t work.  Amex told one reader yesterday that it hadn’t been added to the system yet.  It told another that all 20,000 registrations had already gone, which I doubt is true as I clicked through within 30 seconds of receiving the email.

It did start working at about 9pm last night and I was able to register myself and my wife successfully.  If you tried and failed during the day yesterday, try again now before the 20,000 registrations cap is reached.

PS.  Talking of Amex IT cock-ups, American Express has just told holders of the British Airways Corporate American Express Card that it has fixed an IT error in setting up new Avios accounts.  This error has been in place since 2015.  Amex has only just got around to dealing with it, even though it impacted everyone who did not have an Avios account in place at the point of their BA Corporate Amex application.

There is also an IT issue regarding the Starwood American Express card which Amex still refuses to admit exists and which cost me 10,000 SPG points.  This has been going on for at least 3 years …..

  • Clive says:

I just activated the 500 Avios through my offers

  • Stu R says:

Amex IT is just a joke! Paid my bill off Thursday, and got a text confirming receipt of my payment. Checked the app – payment was showing in my balance. Checked the app for something else in the small hours of Friday morning only to find the payment was gone from both the transaction list and balance! Rang Amex who said ‘oh that happens sometimes at night’, your money will show again in the morning! What nonsense!

  • Mike says:

I wonder what BA considers a “Competitive” salary for this kind of position. I’m guessing, not competitive with a bank or tech company…

    • Paul says:

Well the title is “executive” so it’s not a management grade role. Salary will be £30-40k is my guess. Lot of grief for very little reward.

      • Genghis says:

Most likely. At my place though, “executive” is a senior position.

        • N says:

Aren’t the copy and paste BA Customer service emails signed off “British Airways Customer Services Executive”?

Doesn’t bode well for the salary banding!

    • the_real_a says:

In my former place we had “catering executives”… who served on the Till in the canteen.

  • Funtime says:

Amex offer still not showing on my offers.

  • Paul says:

My wife got the Avios offer on her BAPP card but I didn’t. There are just under 7000 slots left.

  • Jovanna says:

I’ve not had my companion voucher yet. Put through £10k on the BAPP by May of this year and nothing appeared in my BA account. I had no plans to use it immediately, so didn’t worry at first then I used the web chat function at the end of last month. Amex said it should be in my BA account within 10 days but it could take up to a month. Still no voucher in the BA account.

    • Bob says:

I have been told you can’t have offers on the supplementary card (Premium). Anyone know if that is correct?

      • Polly says:

Always worth a call to ask for the offer to be added to supp card. Offer does state once per card tho. But you could get a switched on agent who will happily add it for you. Some folks here got the most recent £5 off amazon one added to supp cards by phone or chat. I am going to try later, as it’s useful for once!
        SPG card Useless offers Rob.

      • Pid says:

Never had a problem adding offers to a supp card. However, it often takes a month for them to be showing on it.

  • Craig says:

I have both a BAPP and a Preferred Rewards Gold. I’ve added the offer to both this morning; 500 bonus avios on the BAPP, 500 bonus MR points on the gold card.
    Thanks for the tip off!

  • The Original Nick. says:

Even though the email came through showing the offer to be on my BA AMEX card the offer is actually on my Amex Platinum card.
