News in brief:

New Qatar Airways business class deals – TODAY ONLY

Qatar Airways launched another (yes, another) business class sale yesterday.

The UK sale fares are here and are OK but nothing to get excited about.  This runs until Friday.

Things are better in Europe but in Europe it is a 48-hour sale which ends TODAY.  Digging around, these appear to be the highlights from elsewhere in Europe:

Berlin to Cape Town €1,991  (more German deals here)

Berlin to Chiang Mai €1,749

Brussels to Bali €1,671 (more Belgian deals here)

Brussels to Delhi €1,889

Brussels to Johannesburg €2,144

Frankfurt to Windhoek €1,473

Prague to Bangkok 32,896 CZK (£1,108)  (more Czech deals here)

Sofia to Singapore 2,299 BGN (£1,030)  (more Bulgarian deals here)

Sarajevo to Kuala Lumpur €1092

Sarajevo to Guangzhou €954

Stockholm to Sydney or Melbourne 18,157 SEK (£1,660)  (more Sweden deals here)

Stockholm to Singapore 13,206 SEK (£1,207)

These flights are for travel by 28th February.  You cannot travel between 15th December and 10th January.

Note that some of these destination, eg Sarajevo, involve a short-haul A320 to Doha, albeit with a ‘proper’ business class seat.

Most of these deals will earn 560 British Airways tier points (4 x 140 given the plane change in Doha) as each leg is over 2,000 miles.  That is 90% of the 600 required for a British Airways Silver card, albeit you also need to fly 4 BA flights in your membership year.  Australasia routes earn 600 tier points.

You will also earn a huge chunk of Avios back too.

Are there generally any trip duration rules for Qatar sales? Been having a play just to try and compare how much it would have cost me if I’d gone for a Qatar sale fare instead of booking with avios, but I’m struggling to find sale fares on any dates that would have allowed for my trip duration.
So I’m wondering if there’s an unspoken 2-week rule on these sale fares that it’d be good to flag.

    • Rob says:

There probably is – the issue is that they may file different rules for each country and it is too painful to go through them all, especially as it involves using the ITA Matrix tool to get at them.

  • Nathan says:

Still holding out for another amazing deal to BKK, hopefully in the Jan sale they run each year! Got it for around the £850 mark ex-eu previously!

  • Anna says:

OT: Amex. I applied for a supplementary card on a Gold MR account back in the summer, the offer was 3000 MR points. 4 weeks later I chased up the points and was told it would take 60 days, just asked again today and told 90 days! Is this Amex trying to keep accounts open for longer and reduce churning?

    • MarkH says:

When I added a supp card on my gf’s PRGC back in July the points posted within a couple of days so not sure why they are giving you the run around

    • steven laity says:

I had the same. Applied for supplementary card for 3000 bonus was told it would arrive in 10 days. 3 weeks later still no card or points. Rang and chased up and said they had no record of it. So did again with them on the phone then.
Still waiting on points and been given similar time frame as you

    • Steve-B says:

I’ve chased twice recently – once via the call centre and once via chat. On both times I was told 60 days.

  • Ant says:

Booked flights to auckland and back from Sydney and on the way back we have 12 hrs in Doha. Is it possible to leave the airport? Do we need a visa? This will be mid February. Thanks

    • AndyR says:

They have free visa on arrival at the moment.

    • Diego says:

and if you stay 12 or more hours you get a free 5 start hotel stay (usually valued around 150GBP) if you fly business (4 star in economy)

  • Genghis says:

I’d be wary of leaving any balance there. IMO cash now is better than the prospect of a good avios deal later / balance being removed.

  • Clive says:

AMS – BKK is fairly wide open with BA in CW for £1256. Throw some Avios at it to lower the price further if required.

  • Scallder says:

OT (as bits): Tesco are now giving an extra 1 clubcard point per £4 spent when using Pay+ (previously PayQwiq) until 14th January

  • Vin Schmallhausen says:

Do you get the GHA Status for the duration of the subscription? Ie a 3 year sub = 3 years status?
