News in brief:

Get 2,000 bonus Miles & More miles with an Accor hotel booking

Miles & More is running a lot of special deals this month as part of its 25th birthday celebrations.

Nothing is going to top the current Hilton offer, which offers a crazy 2,500 Miles & More miles – worth £25 if used for premium long-haul flights – on every booking.  And this is on top of your usual Hilton points, not instead of!  You can register for that offer here.

This Accor deal is not in the same league, but is certainly worth thinking about.  It is especially interesting if you have a stay at the Sofitel Heathow Terminal 5 coming up.

You will earn 2,000 bonus Miles & More miles, on top of the standard miles (usually 500 per stay), if you complete one of the following:

  • 1 night at a Sofitel, Pullman or MGallery (Sofitel London St James pictured below)
  • 2 consecutive nights at a Mercure, Novotel or Novotel Suites
  • 4 consecutive nights at Ibis or Ibis Styles

It is valid for stays until 31st October.  The stay MUST have been booked on or after 1st September and before 30th September.

This is a bit ‘scruffy’ in terms of how it works:

You can only earn the bonus once

You MUST set your Accor account to automatically convert your Accor points into Miles & More miles

IMPORTANT:  Any existing Accor points you have will automatically be converted to Miles & More too, at a 2:1 ratio.  Do NOT register for this promo if you have an existing pot of Accor points you want to keep.

You can learn more about the offer here.  The Accor website page to change your earning profile from points to Miles & More miles is here.

PS.  Remember that you can also get £30 cashback for a £250 spend at some UK MGallery hotels via an Amex cashback deal which we covered here.

Free Fast Track security at London Stansted

Yesterday I wrote about how you can get free Fast Track security passes for Manchester Airport by doing a ‘click and collect’ purchase for the duty free shop.

As Fast Track costs £10 for two, and you only needed to spend £10 at Duty Free, this was clearly a good deal.  So good, in fact, that immediately after our emails went out yesterday they changed the rules!  You now need to pre-order £20 of duty free.

In turns out London Stansted is running an identical offer.  (The two airports share the same owner so it is not totally surprising.)

Via this link, you can get codes for two free Fast Track security passes at Stansted by pre-ordering £20 of duty free items.

Remember that “If the Click & Collect order is not collected, the customer will be contacted and billed for the full cost of the Security FastTrack Pass.”

Blacklane Miles and More bonus

10 Miles & More miles per £1 / €1 / $1 with Blacklane

In another of Lufthansa’s birthday celebrations for its Miles & More programme, chauffeur group Blacklane is offering 10 Miles & More miles per €1 / £1 / $1 spent on rides.

You need to book your trip during September and complete it before the end of the year.

The company now operates in 300 cities in 60 countries and is particularly useful for airport rides.  We used them in Milan Linate last month.

If you are not interested in 10 miles per £$€1, Blacklane also lets you earn airline miles with:

  • Asia Miles (2 per £/$/€ spent)
  • Flying Blue (2 per £/$/€ spent)
  • Qatar Privilege Club (1 per £/$/€ spent)
  • Enrich (Malaysia Airlines) (2 per £/$/€ spent)
  • Singapore Airlines Krisflyer (2 per £/$/€ spent)

You can also save 10% on your first Blacklane ride with code SAVE10%.

Blacklane has a slightly odd way of entering promotional codes.  You will be presented with a page asking for your credit card details.  After you type them in, there is an additional screen which asks if you have a voucher code.  Add SAVE10% on that page and 10% is deducted from your quote.  Your card is not charged until after the ride and you can cancel until 1 hour before pick-up.

You can sign-up for a Blacklane account here.  Click on the Miles & More logo on their home page to see full details of the ’10 miles per £€$1′ offer.

  1. Sorry for OT. Does anyone know a good phone number for someone at Marriott with more than half a brain cell who knows how to book with a 7 night certificate? Thanks.

    • Are you calling the 02070127312 number? Surprised if you are having problems with them, they have been excellent in my experience. However, they may be diverting calls or using new staff due to high demand. The guy I spoke to last time though indirectly indicated that their briefing on changes was very poor.

  2. Sorry another O/T, I cancelled my avios/companion voucher flights 6 day’s ago. I had the option to do this as BA consolidated flights. How long does it normally take to get, voucher, points and credit card refund? Cheers, Ian

    • Should be within 24h for avios, and voucher I guess, and a few days for the card refund although they will tell you longer for that. The one time I didn’t get my avios back quickly it was agent error so call them again and tell them you have been refunded. nothing.

    • I cancelled a 2 4 1 booking about 2 weeks ago as my preferred date came available, the avios, voucher and money were all refunded within 24 hours, I was very impressed!

    • I cancelled one a week ago and still haven’t had the refund of points etc.
They have told me on online chat that it’s currently taking up to 28 days.

  3. And another OT – have Marriott changed their point expiry rules?

I haven’t linked SPG/Marriott yet and have only received 800 of the 4000 points that left my SPG Amex but AwardWallet tells me they expire in Feb which I think is about 12 months after my last SPG stay

  4. Thanks BJ, I will give BA a call.

  5. Has Amex Platinum to “other cards” referral link stopped again?
Cannot see any other card other than Platinum and Green when using my referral link

    • Everything still showing for me for BAPP on android mobile Roger. Sorry I don’t have my platinum link to hand, will check later as on another device. You might want to try a different browser or device too.

  6. OT I need to book 5 nights in two rooms for 2 adults in a Hilton hotel for a couple of work colleagues. Whats the best way of taking advantage of any points on my account (I won’ t be staying at the hotel). If I book the flexible rate I assume it won’t take the money from my credit card and they will pay at check out or do I book the advance purchase to ensure the spend goes through my credit card?

  7. O/T had my birthday this week. Got email from BA wishing me happy birthday and giving me 2018 avios as a present. First time I’ve been offered this….not complaining 🙂

  8. Tried booking flights from my BA account for someone else using my credit cards – failed on multiple cars. Tried again using the card of the person travelling – failed. I’ve done both before so isthis perhaps a temporary fault on BA site?

  9. I have 1,000 Miles and More due to expire soon. I’ve looked at Rob’s “orphan miles” post https://www.headforpoints.com/2017/08/22/how-to-use-small-orphan-amounts-of-miles-and-points-part-2-airlines-and-shopping-3/ but most things I can see to spend are min 3,000 miles and a poor value redemption at that (3,000 for a £10 voucher..!!)

Is there anything obvious I’m missing please for a way to spend 1,000 that I can’t prevent expiring?

    (I don’t have the M&M card).

    Thanks
