Marriott Rewards has launched some new concert tickets for their suite at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.

The catered box at the O2 is not a bad place to see a concert, as my review here shows. The food and drink on offer is excellent, albeit you are some distance from the stage.

O/T : the Principal Hotel London ( soon to become a Kimpton)

Does anyone know when this hotel will be bookable with IHG points and how many points it will be . (I’m guessing 60,000) ?

    • Matt says:

I’m interested in Principal York too for a break over the Christmas period. Hotel looks great but cash prices a little high. Depending on redemption rate I’d consider it.

    • mark e says:

      Thanks Rob

  • Nick says:

Flew BA BHX-PMI this summer and the plane was full both ways, kinda surprised they won’t be running this year.

    • Shoestring says:

Changes made probably for other reasons than solely route profitability. Don’t BA still need to fill a lot of slots out of Gatwick or face losing them? Which might not mean moving Embraers there, but juggling other planes leaving gaps to fill.

    • ChrisC says:

a full plane does not always mean a profitable plane.

Over the season loads and income may have been too low for BA to make enough profit.

      • ADS says:

well said ChrisC – it’s not just bums on seats, but the average fare paid matters too !

  • Ryan says:

I guess these O2 packages are good value if you have a heap of legacy points as nothing has posted to my Marriott/SPG since early August….

  • Sharon says:

Yet again those of us living in the west and south west of the country gets abandoned by those airlines who only see it fitting to fly from the north west and south east. I now only fly BA when I need to use a companion voucher. Thank goodness I have the option of flying into cheaper European hubs from BHX & BRS via better airlines such as KLM, Lufthansa and Turkish

    • Shoestring says:

Overdramatic? The routes only started May 20th LY https://headforpoints.com/2017/02/10/british-airways-birmingham-bristol/

Who ever suggested this was anything but a temporary use of the aircraft at weekends?

    • Anna says:

I’m not sure weekend services mostly at unearthly hours from May to September at MAN count as a significant service from BA and I have wondered from the start how long they will last. We used the flight to Nice last May which was full but it was half term week so it’s unclear whether this was unusual.

I’m no expert on flight scheduling but rather than having sitting idle at LCY, would it not be better to put flights on at peak times (Christmas, Easter and the Feb and Oct half terms as well as the summer) when the demand is definitely there.

    • Mark2 says:

BA also fly from the far north of the country – GLA, EDI and INV, as well as far North West – Belfast.

    • Callum says:

My condolences. I can’t grasp how you manage to get out of bed every morning facing such dire and unprecedented hardship.

    • Andrew says:

Does this definitely mean the flights won’t be operating?

I’ve flown direct from Edinburgh & Glasgow on BA flights – but they are exclusive to Barrhead Travel. Is it possible that they will be marketed like that?

      https://www.barrheadtravel.co.uk/exclusive-barrhead-travel-flights

      • Shoestring says:

Interesting – could be one of the reasons the scheduled flights from BRS, BHX are getting withdrawn, ie more lucrative to charter them to Barrhead etc?

      • ChrisC says:

        Those are charters.

If you look at the BA source website you will see charters listed – primarily at the weekend

Charters can only be booked via the company doing the charter and are part of a package trip

    • David says:

BA don’t fly from the Northwest West of the country – there’s not an airport they use within 3 hours of Cape Wrath.

    • Melvin says:

@Sharon – I agree with you and I can only assume that comments such as those from @Callum are made by people who live near a hub served by BA. Yes, what was on offer was poor but at least it was something.

BA are supposed to be our national carrier yet they do not seem bothered about serving the whole of Great Britain. Whether they are any good compared to other airlines it neither here nor there at this stage. Without the option of being able to use them from my closest airport (BHX) then I guess I’ll never know!

      • John says:

What makes you think “BA are supposed to be our national carrier”?

        • Kip says:

…because BA are the successor to the nationlised airline. it’s like BT only offering broadband in London.

        • ChrisC says:

the concept of a ‘national airline’ is long dead so people should just forget about it.

BA has been a private company for more than 30 years ago.

      • Mark2 says:

BHX is my nearest airport too, but their are motorways which go right past Heathrow.
It is unrealistic to expect a complete range of flights from a regional airport, especially one about 101.8 miles from Heathrow T5.

  • Sarah Lea says:

I’m not surprised by the BHX drop. The flight times were dreadful. BHX treated with the same disdain as when BA closed the base there over 10 years ago

    • Lloyd says:

Agree. Flight times were dreadful and there is still a small contingent in the West Mids who would not fly BA again after they closed the Eurohub. When you combine:

      a) Dreadful flight times
      b) Little brand penetration in the Mids – yes everyone will have heard of BA but few would be aware that a handful of flights have returned. Its not as if there were a few domestics there to begin with.
      c) Next to zilch advertising
      d) Some actively avoiding BA as a result of the Eurohub closure.

…its no surprise if the routes did not work.

      • Anna says:

One of my distant cousins is a BA pilot – I bumped into his Dad recently up here in the NW and even he didn’t know they had started flying MAN to Europe!

  • Combat Johnny says:

Slightly off topic, can you still self refer for new American express cards?

    • Lottie says:

Yes I did it last week. Self referred play to nectar and got the card and points within a couple of days.

  • Shoestring says:

    Tesco Interims out.
[focus on sustainable general merchandise categories by closing Tesco Direct]
Those Clubcard points won’t be coming back. Tesco Wines closes next week.

[189,500 more customers are shopping at Tesco]
Really? I’m shopping there less and less. So does that exclude Direct? Yes. Does it include new customers @ Booker business? Don’t know. Pretty useless metric in any case.

[voted ‘Britain’s Favourite Supermarket’ by customers for the fourth year running]
Not in my books, would rank below Morrisons, Sainsbury, Lidl. Pretty awful product range & value for money.

Anything good? Yep, they’re finally building a PFS just up the road, might come in handy if I end up with £744 credit to spend (Xmas Saver). Not sure how competitive fuel pricing will be as they only have an expensive BP anywhere close.

    • Anna says:

Yes, I’ve pretty much given up on Tesco, I’ve calculated that after this year I might get enough points for one night in a decent hotel via hotels.com but that’s it. I think I’ll be shopping more and more at ALDI now they take Amex.

I stocked up on a few cases of the (few) discounted reds they had at Tesco Wines which will hopefully last until the end of the year and then I’ll have to start looking elsewhere.

  • Nate1309 says:

Wishful thinking maybe all the planes are coming to CWL
