Earn 9,000 Avios for a 3-day Avis weekend car rental

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Avios (through Iberia Plus) and Avis have teamed up to offer another generous car rental promotion.  It’s nowhere near as good as the ‘18,000 Avios for a weekend rental’ offer they ran 18 months ago but it is certainly pretty decent.

Full details can be found – in English – on the Avis / Iberia Plus microsite here.

Here are the core terms and conditions:

Avis 350

You earn at least 9,000 Avios.  This consists of 8,300 bonus Avios and the usual spend-based Avios award which, for a 3-day rental, is at least 700 Avios.

Your rental must include a Saturday night

Your rental must be for at least 3 days

You must rent a Group C car or higher

You must complete your rental by 15th December

You must book at iberia.com or rentacar-iberia.com or avis.es

Not valid on Corporate AWD rentals, Prestige rentals, Chauffeur Drive or Van rentals

Valid for all participating offices in Spain mainland, Balearics and Canaries, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, The Netherlands and United Kingdom

It may take 8 weeks for the bonus Avios to arrive

Vehicles must be collected and returned on the dates booked. Any cars not checked out and returned as per the booking will not qualify. [This means you cannot pick up the car, drive it around the block and return it immediately – it must be returned on the booked return date]

You need to credit the rental to an Iberia Plus account to receive the 9,000 Avios.  You will NOT receive the points if you give a British Airways, AerClub, Vueling Club or avios.com number.  You can move the Avios over to British Airways using the ‘Combine My Avios’ function on any of the Avios websites, although if your Iberia Plus account is brand new you will need to wait until it is 90 days old.

If you can pick up a car for £20 per day then you could pick up some reasonably priced Avios points here.  That said, it isn’t worth doing purely for the points unless you have a convenient and cheap Avis depot near you and somewhere to park the car for 72 hours.

If you do need a car for a long weekend over the next two months, however, then this is well worth a look.

You can learn more on the Avis / Iberia website here.

  • Scottydogg says:

Ive done a dummy run on Iberia for a rental in November that i need to take , doesn’t say anything about the bonus , just quoting the 700 avios i would get ?

I can totally agree that trying to sort out anything with Iberia to do with Avios is a nightmare

  • thomas howard says:

I’ll pass on this one, I’m still waiting for my 9000 bonus Avios per flight booking 😉

    • Shoestring says:

What’s the issue? Have you been pro-active about chasing them? Not many left in your position now.

      • thomas howard says:

I have called the spanish call centre multiples times, emailed Iberia Plus, sent messages to the Twitter team, tried emailing Luis Gallego (ignored), sent recorded letter to Madrid and 10 Hammersmith Broadway (returned unopened),… Its not the focus of my life but when I have a dead moment on a Sunday I make another attempt.

        • Nick says:

Hammersmith Broadway has been closed for a year or two now (as can be seen very clearly from the outside!). IB’s registered UK address is now Waterside.

  • Alastair says:

I had a look at all weekends in York from here til 15 December and found a good deal for £59. Unusually it was £59 to pay on collection and was cheaper than paying in advance which was £83 so I booked it. When the email confirmation came through it was £98 rather than £59 so I think this good price was a bug in the system – it was the only weekend where it showed like that. The £98 price was repeated several other weekends as the pay on collection price. I have cancelled it, but just a note to others if they see a similar “seems too good to be true” price – it is too good to be true !

    • Shoestring says:

Or take a screenshot of the £59 & argue for a refund of the difference

      • Alastair says:

I thought of that but couldn’t face the aggravation on what seems to be a system issue with one weekend alone. Life is too short.

    • Nick_C says:

Also be aware that Budget rentals show up the same search. They are cheaper but presumably don’t get the 9000 bonus.

  • Pogonation says:

Reading the terms and conditions it seems like multiple rentals will qualify for the bonus. It says 9000 for each rental between the dates specified and only seems to say conjunctive/concurrent rentals won’t count. Hope this is the case as I will have 5+ weekends to book between now and then for work 🙂

  • Charlie says:

I did 9,000 avios per Iberia flight booking promotion from this summer, x10, so 90,000 in total.

I withdrew everything over to my BA account so am expecting my Iberia account to go in deficit in December. For this reason I am skipping this promotion, as it will probably clash with the account going into deficit !

  • George says:

Any clues on how I tie the booking to my preferred account? Would asking them to add my wizard no after the fact do?

    • George says:

Update: I totally missed the ‘Avis number’ field in the checkout form. Question answered!

    • Peter K says:

Which airline gives you a Wizard number?

  • Simon says:

Blimey that was hard work to book a car – got there in the end after many failed attempts.

£54 for three days. Just hoping the AVIOS arrive! At the very least I’ll have a new car to drive around in for a weekend compared to the old banger!!

    Cheer Rob for the info.

  • Matthew says:

Forgive me for being thick but I can’t seem to find anywhere to put my IB Plus number in during the booking which is concerning me….thanks!

    • Matthew says:

Found it….almost the last section before booking. The bit that mentions the flight number, it has a little checked box below…
