I get occasional emails from new readers to Head for Points asking if you can convert Nectar points into Avios?
The simple answer is ‘No’. Here is the more complex answer.
Whilst you cannot convert Nectar points directly into British Airways Avios points, you can use them alongside Avios when planning a trip to avoid paying out too much cash.
How does this work? Well:
Avios allows both one-way and return flights to be booked on points
Nectar allows you to spend your points with travel booking site Expedia (see here for the Nectar / Expedia home page)
Imagine you wanted to travel to Berlin for the weekend. Whilst you cannot convert your Nectar points into Avios, what you could do is:
Use your Nectar points for Expedia credit, and pay for a one-way flight to Berlin
Use your Avios points for a one-way flight on British Airways back home from Berlin
Using this method, you have reduced the number of Avios points needed to book the flights whilst also running down your Nectar points balance. You have got roughly the same end result as if you had transferred your Nectar points into Avios even though you can’t make such a transfer directly.

PS. Until late 2017, you were able to use your Nectar points to book flights on easyJet. This has now been discontinued.
