IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, has launched its new Spring promotion.

It is fundamentally another version of the long-running Accelerate offer, although this time it is called “Reward Nights. Faster.”

You can find out your targets, and register, on the IHG website here.

It is valid for stays between 15th January and 30th April.  The closing date for registration is 15th March – this is the first time I can remember that IHG has closed registrations early.

Once I had registered, I got the following targets:

10,000 bonus points for staying five nights

19,200 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands

5,600 bonus points for 2 x 2-night weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)

8,000 bonus points for four stays booked on the corporate rate of the company I haven’t worked for since 2011, and which has special rates at very few properties anyway ….

3,000 bonus points for one stay in February

42,800 bonus points for completing four of the five targets above

This is fairly useless to me, frankly.  It is virtually impossible to hit the weekends target and I can’t see any scenario under which I could hit the ‘corporate rate’ target.

The 19,200 points bonus for staying at three different brands is an interesting one, however.  If I value an IHG point at 0.4p then I’m getting almost £80 of points back from those three stays – plus my standard points and the 3,000 points for a February stay – which is a good deal.

Realistically, I might be able to achieve 32,200 bonus points.  This would involve staying five nights over the next four months, taking in three different brands and ensuring one stay is in February.

My wife got the following targets:

10,000 bonus points for staying five nights

28,800 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands

8,400 bonus points for two Holiday Inn stays

10,800 bonus points for 3 x 2-night weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)

6,600 bonus points for booking two ‘Bonus Point Packages’ (this is when the reservation system offers you additional points on your stay in return for paying a slightly higher rate)

This is VERY interesting:

she could earn 35,400 bonus points from just three nights, as long as each was at a different brand and two were ‘Bonus Point Packages’

she could earn 58,000 bonus points (worth £232 based on my 0.4p valuation) from just five nights, as long as they included two Holiday Inn nights, three different brands in total and two of the bookings were for ‘Bonus Point Packages’

Conclusion

The new IHG Rewards Club promotion is, at least in my house, surprisingly generous.

We don’t know what Marriott Rewards will do when MegaBonus ends on 31st January (MegaBonus details are here).  However, IHG’s ‘Rewards Nights. Faster.’ offer is looking a lot more generous for us (your position may be different) than Hilton’s new ‘2,000 bonus points per stay’ offer which I wrote about here.

I strongly recommend signing up now, especially as IHG is closing registrations early on 15th March, even though stays until 30th April count.  Remember that only stays from 15th January count – existing bookings are OK and do not need to be rebooked.

You can register for the new IHG promotion here.

      Mine is turd

    • Jay H says:

Exactly the same for me 🙁

    • Fenny says:

I got this. Pretty much no chance of me being able to do 3 weekends, so mostly not worth the effort for anything up to 16,000 points for 4 nights.

I haven’t done an Accelerate for at least 2 years as they’ve been utterly rubbish. I’ve got 4 reward nights booked at a HIX in London in June, but only as a placeholder to make sure I get the nights I want for when we see Mr Jackman at the O2.

    • Amy says:

Yep. Me too. Rubbish. Hilton 90 day gold challenge continues then

  • Adam says:

Am I right in thinking it is based on Stay date and not booking date?

    I have a strange mix

7K after staying 7 Nights (I already have 5 booked so this is likely)
4.5K For a Points and Cash booking (I may do this if the booked night counts towards the 7 above)
12k for 3 stays of over 4 nights (No chance, I don’t think I have stayed 4 nights in hotel for years)
2.8k for 3 different brands – this seems to be about 1/10 what others are getting offered, I assume this is because I already have bookings with two so they didn’t want it too easy.

This is where is becomes especially stupid.

26k bonus points when I complete 4 of the above 3??? Really hoping it means 3 of 4 in which case I may be able to do 3 of 4 by booking a Holiday Inn points and Cash for two nights.

and finally – Book 1 stay to get an “upgrade” to Gold Elite for 2019 (Despite being Gold Elite already!)

    • Rob says:

Yes, booking date only matters for any ‘app booking’ targets which you don’t have.

  • Robert says:

Strange start date – Tuesday 15th?
My offer seems reasonable. Should be able to get some of it…
Stay at 4 brands and get 33,600 bonus points
Stay at 3 Holiday Inn® hotel(s) and earn 10,800 bonus points
Stay 2 weekend(s), including a Saturday night and another night, and earn 12,000 bonus points.
Stay 4 time(s) using your corporate rate and earn 5,600 bonus points
Earn 12,000 bonus points when you book 2 stay(s) of 4 or more consecutive nights.
earn 74,000 total bonus points when you complete your offers

  • Dave R says:

My targets are pretty good/achievable except for the achievement bonus:

‘Complete 6 of the 5 offers and earn (an additional) 22,550 bonus points’

There is obviously something not quite right there 🙂

I have 6 offers listed but only 5 have a gray background, which I think means they are the main offers. The 6th is on a white background which IIRC usually dictates a bonus offer.

    • Alex W says:

Same here, I have 4 grey offers and 2 orange offers. Stay in Feb bonus is grey, but is below “complete 4 out of 4”.

Complete cash & points booking is above, but is orange. If that’s included then I would need 6 stays (including 5 different brands) as it wouldn’t count towards any of the other targets. Might as well forget it.

      • Alex W says:

Interesting. This morning the points and cash target has turned grey and the achievement bonus has changed to 4 out of 5.

        • Adam says:

Mine 2, Mine are now all grey and have changed to 4 out of 4 (Instead of 4 out of 3)

It is good though as I was planning on doing a mattress run to hit the bonus (If it was 3 out of 4) but now there is no point. So they have already saved me time and money!

        • Dave R says:

Same here.. mine has now changed to 6 of 6. No chance.

  • Phil says:

Re the Corporate Rate bonuses. In the past I’ve triggered this through a Fine Hotels & Resorts stay. I’ve no idea if this would still work and I only discovered it accidentally when it happened last time.

  • Phil says:

    Well this is boring…

    40,000 Double Your Stay
Earn double points on every stay, starting with your second stay, up to 40,000 bonus points.

    3,000 February Bonus Offer
Stay once in February and get 3,000 bonus points.

    • Kimberly says:

I got the same lousy challenge as well. Only mine is even worse because I don’t even have the bonus for a February stay. Not impressed at all. This is definitely the worst/least enticing Accelerate IHG offer I’ve ever received.

  • sneydpotter says:

Mine is double points after your second stay up to 40000 points.

Nothing else, no other targets and no completion bonus!

  • Chuck says:

Stay at 2 Crowne Plaza 18,000 points
Stay 2 weekends (2 nights inc Sat) 8,400 points
2 Bonus points package stays 6,600 points
Stay 1 night in Feb 2000 points

Do 3 of the above for additional 16,500 points

Tempted to give it a shot …
