Save £7 on return Heathrow Express tickets

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Heathrow Express is offering a £7 discount on return Standard Class Heathrow Express tickets.  This takes the price down from £37 to £30.

This offer is linked to the Virgin Atlantic sale but you do not need to have a Virgin Atlantic flight booking to take advantage.

You must book via this special link here.  The £30 fare will show automatically.

Heathrow Express discount

You cannot collect Avios on this deal (Heathrow Express tickets only earn Avios if booked via heathrowexpress.com/avios) but you should be able to earn Heathrow Rewards points.

It’s not clear how long this deal will remain – it will possibly be pulled on 31st January when the Virgin Atlantic sale ends, but I can’t be sure.  You can book for any future date however.

  1. OT: To earn the upgrade voucher I paid £600 into my EDF account using my Lloyds avios card. EDF auto refunded the £600 to the card today without my knowledge. What are Lloyds likely to do about this; just create a negative avios balance on my card account or could it impact my voucher that I have already earned?

    • To be on the safe side you could make the payment again. OVO are better in this respect as refunds go back into the account the DD comes from, regardless of any other payment methods used.

  2. Anyone got any advice on moving avios from Iveria to BA?
CMA doesn’t work (althoughit did for CMA from aerlingus to BA); my addresses are the same.
There’s no online help and a call to BA contact centre was dropped as they are very busy!

  3. OT – got an email today from Miles and More offering me 500 bonus Award miles if I fly 2 sectors and 2,000 Award miles if I fly 4 sectors. Register by 31-1-10 and fly 1-2 to 30-4. Covers Lufthansa Group airlines plus Adria, Croatia, LOT and Luxair. No idea if targeted and not the most generous offer but better than nothing.

  4. Just in case anyone is interested… My partner cancelled their BAPP card a few months ago and was expecting the usual “the voucher will be cancelled” etc etc however the Amex agent said nothing. We used the voucher today and the BA agent said that she needed to take the payment on the card in which the voucher was earned. I played along and gave her my newly issued BAPP card and all went through no problems. My parents also recently cancelled their BAPP card and Amex didn’t tell them the voucher would be cancelled either. Seems Amex have given up with that line but have passed it onto BA. I’m not sure what would happen if you told the BA agent that you no longer had the card?

    • They don’t know which card triggered the voucher. We’ve made a 2 4 1 booking with my OH’s voucher and paid the fees with my BAPP. I think it even asks you if the person paying is one of the passengers or someone else!

    • Amex doesn’t do name recognition so you can give them any old Amex number, not even one of yours necessarily.

OT: Amex £200 off £600. Do I get the option of prepaying? I would like to book at Ritz-Carlton stay in August but aware that the offer ends well before that date.

    • I think you don’t get a choice about prepaying – you just have to do it. But I’ve only booked flights to date…

    • I don’t understand – this offer is ONLY for prepaid items so the travel date is irrelevant, you just need to book and pay before expiry.

  6. Stephen says:

Am I missing some detail, or does the Amex Platinum / Avis benefit not actually give you any additional benefit?

When I signed up for this, I seemed to just get base level Avis Preferred status — exactly the same as if I had just created a new account on Avis directly?

  7. Slightly OT, When booking car hire via BA or Virgin etc with Avis is the insurance fully comp? I never understand what you need to be fully covered in the USA. Looking for some good advice on what to look for in car hire deals! Thanks in advance.

    • Bonglim says:

(someone correct me if I am wrong)
I think, most of the time if you book a car from the UK with a UK site, you have insurance which is fully comp or insurance which has just a small excess.
If you book through a US website, they often assume that your own insurance (from the car you drive in the US) covers you. So if you do not have that (which you won’t as you don’t own/ insure a car in the us) then you would need separate insurance, buy the overpriced insurance offered by the car rental company, or risk being liable for the full cost of the entire car if you write it off. Sometimes it is a massive excess rather than the full cost of the car, but essentially the same.

That is why it is often a little cheaper to book via a US website or Priceline.

The best option, I think, is if you have an Amex platinum card. If you use that card to pay for the rental (and still have the card at the time of travel) the platinum card gives you automatic insurance for the full amount. You better check that with amex as I have never done that before. Otherwise autoeurope is a good starting place to compare prices – and you can cancel at shortish notice without penalty. Also check if you have any amex offers.

Just to make it more complicated, there might be different rules in different states.

      • Thanks. I do know that Alamo/Brits is good for insurance and would be interesting to hear what others think.

      • You don’t need to pay with the Amex Plat. You’ll still get the core insurance cover from the hire car company, this is saving you having to purchase the excess waiver.

    • The only extra insurance I have when booking via Avis BA is excess cover, I purchase this global cover independently as annual cover for all of my car hire and costs about £40.

      • So you take this out with your own car insurance? I only have 1-2 car hires per year and its in the USA.

        • Lady London says:

yes. make sure you take the worldwide including usa option – that will give you cdw/ldw in usa too. questor, insurance4carhire, bettersafe, icarhireinsurance, etc. all have slightly different t’s and c’s. some will cover vans, for instance, others motorhomes, others none.

I would never ever hire a car without that type of insurance.
The alternative is to buy the hire company’s own insurance that they will say will generally reduce the excesses to zero in most, but not all countries. Also if you check the small print often the hire car insurance actually covers fewer things.

None of them seem to cover the interior of the car btw.

        • Lady London says:

PS though, for example, Oregon seems to have statute that makes car hire companies include sometimes. You have to read the small print on car hire. The potential losses (and, sadly, attempted frauds by the car hire companies themselves / their employees) are just too high to risk not being covered.

Amex Plat seems to take care of it though so far as I can tell (I don’t have Amex Plat).

    • I always rely on Amex Plat for insurance when hiring a car…

  8. OT Had to go to Lisbon for some meetings and used TAP. Outbound nice new A321 Neo nearly empty and back was a slightly older Airbus. Still very clean, busy and served food and drink FOC on both flights. For some reason I had a whole row to myself both ways. Coming back was nearly full.

What I liked about their boarding too was if you just had one bag such as hold-all/rucksack, you could board before the people with the worlds largest carry on cases.

  9. Hmm anyone knowing any decent redemptions from Ibiza back to lcy?
