Today is first day of my run of Iberia Santander to Mardrid flights i booked for the Iberia 90k Avios deal that come up a couple months ago

I’ve moved the points to BAEC and my Iberia account now shows -90k Avios, but is that about the worst of it, and won’t be any extra fall-out when i don’t check-in for any of my flights over the next 10 days…?????

    • Shoestring says:

No further fall-out. Your main worry has to be that IAG combines the BAEC & IB Avios platforms- this has already been announced but no dates yet – meaning your combined IAG Avios a/c aggregates the -90K points.

      • Si says:

I did think i prob messed up by not closing my Iberia A/C while contained “0” Avios.

Maybe if they set a date, I’ll clear my BA A/C, close it down, and then start up again with clean break – if that’s possible?

I best get booking some holidays 🙂

        • Shoestring says:

sure that’s possible – would be helpful if you got a new passport number (IB) and tweaked your address (both)

        • TheSkintTraveller says:

The best bet to protect your BAEC avios is to close your IB account IMO.

        • Shoestring says:

IB will do that under GDPR regs – but retain all useful information in case they need it later for legal purposes. No idea if that means your a/c balance gets zeroed in the event of Avios platforms combining.

We all have to renew passports approx every 9.5 years, so you can work out the cost of renewing your passport early to get a new number. Eg renewing passport 2 years earlier than necessary would cost you (£75.50 /9.5) x2 = £15.89, vs the cost of 90K Avios getting pinched from your BAEC a/c, some would say £900

Plus extremely easy to change addresses, they are not actually needed for anything except ID purposes so you might as well use your mum’s 🙂

    • roberto says:

Lots of Fog in Spain recently. There is a small chance your flights be cancelled and you might be entitled to a refund if you do actually check in.

Bearing in mind you have already taken the miles out the worst that could happen is a refund of whatever the flight cost you.

  • Dale says:

Just on the long running Europe Hilton sale – any idea when they will run one for USA, I have a feeling it normally follows the other regions??
