IHG’s 5-day flash sale – save 30% this week on hotel bookings for stays in UK and Europe

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

IHG Rewards Club is running a short flash sale for the UK and Europe this week.  This covers InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites etc.

You can get up to 30% off at more than 600 hotels in over 100 cities throughout Europe.  We’ve included a few examples that we’ve reviewed recently below.

The rules are simple:

Book by Friday 22nd March

Stay between 5th April 2019 and 31st January 2020

You can only book via this link

Booking must be made at least 3 days in advance

Only UK and European hotels are participating

The discount is usually 30% off Best Available Rate.  IHG Rewards Club members receive an additional 3%-7% off.

However, as these sale rates are non-cancellable and non-refundable, you should really be comparing them to the existing Advanced Purchase rates.

Your saving might not be as high as 30% but prices are definitely lower than the usual Advanced Purchase ratesThere are genuine discounts on offer until Friday.

Remember that, until 30th April, your stays will also count towards IHG’s ‘Rewards Nights. Faster.’ promotion.

Everyone has personalised targets which, in general, are easier or more generous than we have seen for a while.  This is our article on the offerRegistration is now closed, however.

Rob got the following targets:

  • 10,000 bonus points for staying five nights
  • 19,200 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands
  • 5,600 bonus points for 2 x 2-night weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)
  • 8,000 bonus points for four stays booked on a corporate rate
  • 3,000 bonus points for one stay in February
  • 42,800 bonus points for completing four of the five targets above

Take a look at what you’ve been offered.  Assuming you registered before the deadline last week, you can check your targets here.

IHG Flash Sale

A few Flash Sale pricing examples:

A Classic Room at the InterContinental Paris – Le Grand (which Rob reviewed here) costs £231 per night (the Advanced Saver Rate is £349 per night)

A Superior Room at the fairly new InterContinental Ljubljana (which I reviewed here) costs £115 per night (the Advanced Saver Rate is £139 per night)

A One Bed, Two Bed or Standard Room at the BRAND NEW Holiday Inn London Heathrow Bath Road (review is here) costs £68 per night (the Advanced Saver Rate is £87 per night)

An Ocean View Deluxe King Room at the InterContinental Cascais-Estoril (review is here) costs £155 per night (the Advanced Saver Rate is £199 per night)

A Standard Room or a Studio Suite at the brand new Staybridge Suites in Manchester (which Rhys reviewed here) costs £97 per night (the Advanced Saver Rate is £122 per night)

Prices quoted above are IHG Rewards Club member prices per night for a random day in mid April 2019.  As a non member you will pay more, but it is free to sign up.

If you have existing flexible IHG bookings for the Summer which can be changed, you may want to check the pricing.  You may feel happier turning an existing refundable rate into a non-refundable booking as the date gets nearer.

The IHG flash sale booking site is here. You have until Friday to book these sale rates.

OT: Struggling to work out how to refer someone for the Free BA card from my gold charge card? When i go to refer it trys to only let me refer from my gold to a gold, or my SPG to an SPG.

    • Grant says:

When you follow the link you’ll see an image of the card with two buttons underneath the bold text. Next to the blue ‘apply now’ button there is a button ‘view our other cards’ – click that and the page scrolls down to the other cards. Click the one you want and away you go.

    • Peter 64K says:

When you refer it will only say gold from gold, spg from spg etc BUT when the person uses your link they will get the option to choose other cards and you still get the referral bonus.

  • Kevin C says:

I also got an email offering my a 100 per cent bonus on IHG points if I bought 7000 or more before 22nd March. So is that targeted?

  • Michael says:

OT: When you’ve used up your 2 free lounge passes to amex just bill your gold card for anything after that?

  • BJ says:

OT: The Hilton sale appears to be nonsense yet again. Checked 5 hotels on 5 dates yesterday. Comparing them with sale prices today, one is £1 cheaper in the sale, the other four are more expensive today.

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Moan to the ASA. Only takes about three minutes to fill in the form and your case will be investigated.

  • Chas says:

Thinking of using this sale to make use of my free night voucher at InterContinental which I got for being an Ambassador member. But, I’ve got so many other trips planned that I doubt I’ll be able to take advantage of anything abroad, unless I can persuade my wife to have a quick jaunt to Paris. Which is the long way round to asking my question – “which would be best InterContinental property in London to stay at?”….

    • Lyn says:

Are you referring to the Ambassador free weekend night where you pay for the first (Friday or Saturday) night and the second night is free?

If so, as far as I know it has to be booked at the special Ambassador rate, which is essentially a special fully flexible rate, so it probably wouldn’t work with the sale.

    • Chas says:

Thanks Rob – will check it out.

    • Leo says:

Did an overnight at the IC O2 this weekend – solely to use up a free cert – I live in Central London so it really was a “staycation”. The O2 is a good hotel and the restaurants and bar are really good. You just might to want to check what’s on at at the O2 Arena though because that impacts on the demographic. This last weekend it was “questionable”. Anyway the Club lounge is very good and if you have Ambassador it’s £50 per night on top of a redemption. This gets you Tea 2-4pm. Free drinks and good canapes 5-7pm and breakfast the next day. It’s £65 if not an Ambassador. V good value IMHO.

  • CC says:

All the hotels I need have this message “Rooms are not available for EUROPE FLASH SALE MEMBER on one or more of the selected dates.” Then when I check “show available dates” the whole of 2019 and onwards are not available either!

Will check later in case its a temporary issue but has anyone else successfully managed to book at an actual genuine discounted price?

    • Lyn says:

I have just checked without actually booking. Using Rob’s link I can see the Europe Flash Sale Member Rate for the hotel I checked and it would be a genuine saving.

  • Dimitri says:

Rob, do you know why IHG always has these promotions in Europe as well as the usual 30% partner rate that they do, but you wouldn’t normally see these offers for the rest of the world? Or do they have promotions outside Europe that we don’t know of?

    • Rob says:

There may be other offers I don’t see. Hilton is very big on making sure its APAC sales are promoted here – see the ad on this page – but IHG seems more of a silo, with the European people focused on promoting European hotels.

  • Dimitri says:

I just booked 3 nights in London and in Kings Cross without realising this offer!!

Sometimes I really wish there were no offers like this at all on this world.
