Marriott has just launched a new Avios bonus promoting European hotels in their Luxury, Premium, Select and Long Stay brand groups.

This means that all Marriott brands except the Autograph Collection, Design Hotels and Tribute Portfolio are included.

You will earn 1,000 bonus Avios per stay with luxury and premium-brand stays. This includes Ritz Carlton, St Regis, JW Marriott, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Edition, Marriott, Sheraton, Delta, Le Meridien, Westin and Renaissance.

Stays at ‘select’ and long stay properties will get you an extra bonus of 500 Avios. These include all the remaining brands that Marriott owns, except the three excluded ones – Autograph Collection, Design Hotels and Tribute Portfolio.  In general these are the more budget-friendly options in Marriott’s portfolio, and include Moxy, Aloft and Courtyard.

You can book this offer here.

These bonuses are in addition to the usual 2 Avios per $ spent you can earn when you switch your Marriott Bonvoy account from earning points to earning miles (more on that here).  You MUST switch your account to earning miles to take advantage of this offer.

Is this better than the current Marriott Bonvoy points offer?

We don’t know.  The current Marriott Bonvoy promotion, ‘Double Take’, ends on 4th June.  We don’t know what will replace it yet.

You’re not risking anything, however, as you can swap your Marriott Bonvoy account back from ‘miles’ to ‘points’ if a good points offer launches for your stay dates.

When is the bonus Avios offer running?

This bonus is per stay and not per night, so you will do better on shorter, cheaper stays. We tend to value an Avios at 1p per point, so you are looking at £10 of Avios on stays at the pricier brands and £5 at the cheaper brands.  For a one night stay, this could be worth up to 10% back AND you get the ‘2 Avios per $1’ from your base spending too.

The offer is valid for stays from 1st June until the 31st December.  Note that it only applies to new bookings. If you have already booked a stay it may be worth checking the prices and re-booking so you are eligible for this promotion.

The booking period is from 1st June until the 31st August.

You can book your stay and read the full terms and conditions here.

If I switch my account to earning miles for this promotion, will it autoconvert my stash of Bonvoy points (as Accor does)?

Never thought of switching to Avios just for a one-night stay like this – guess I’d just always assumed the switch would affect my balance or couldn’t be done!
