Marriott Bonvoy is offering 1,000 bonus points per night and double elite night credits on stays between 13th February and 29th April. Click here to read more and click here to register.

Marriott Bonvoy has launched its third ‘bonus points’ promotion since the scheme launched in February.

You can register here.

Here are the key points:

The promotion is called “Unlock More”

It runs from 29th October to 14th January (registration via this link is open now and closes 31st December)

You will receive 2,000 bonus points for your second paid stay after registration

After you have received your 2,000 bonus points, you will unlock ‘a personalised additional offer’ which will run until 14th January.  Marriott has not given us any idea what these ‘additional offers’ will be!

All 7,000 hotels across all 29 hotel brands are taking part

The 29 brands you can stay at to earn bonus points include: AC Hotels, Aloft, Autograph, Courtyard, Delta Hotels, Design Hotels, Edition, Element, Fairfield Inn, Four Points, Gaylord, Le Meridien, Marriott, Moxy, Protea, Renaissance, Residence Inn, St Regis, Sheraton, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, Springhill Suites, Towneplace Suites, W and Westin.

What is the Marriott bonus worth?

This is, clearly, an odd promotion to calculate ‘value’ on.

I value a Marriott Bonvoy point at 0.5p.

You earn 10 base points per $1 spent on eligible hotel charges, except at Element, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites hotels, where you earn five points per eligible $1.  Status bonuses are on top of this.

Assuming a 0.5p valuation, the 2,000 bonus points mean that you are getting an additional return of £10-worth of points after your 2nd stay.

This is not hugely generous, and is clearly more attractive on a two night stay than a 10 night stay.

What we don’t know, of course, is how generous the ‘personalised additional offer’ will be.  If we had a clue, you would have a feel for whether it was worth moving two stays to Marriott in the hope of something very generous.  As it is, you either need to take a gamble or wait a few weeks and see what starts to pop up for other members who have stays in early November.

What are your other hotel promo options?

Looking at the other major chains ….

IHG Rewards Club has launched its latest Accelerate promotion.  Everyone gets different personalised targets which you need to hit before 31st December.  This can be very lucrative if the targets fit around your travel patterns.  You can register here.

Hilton Honors new Autumn offer is double base points (triple points if you have the old Barclaycard Hilton Honors credit card).  This is valid for stays from 9th September until 5th January 2020.  You can register here.

World of Hyatt is offering double base points (triple points on stays at Hyatt Place) on stays between 15th September and 15th December.  This only kicks in from your second stay after registration.  Registration closes on 31st October.

Accor and Radisson are not running global promotions at the moment.

Without knowing what sort of ‘additional offer’ Marriott will give you, it isn’t clear if it will be better or worse than the alternatives above.  Hilton’s double points offer is clearly better on longer expensive stays (and is handy for me as I have a £1k Hilton stay coming up) but it is marginal vs Marriott on a short cheap stay.

Register now

It makes sense to register for this new Marriott Bonvoy offer now.  It runs until the 14th January and registration cuts off early on 31st December.  Remember that only stays from 29th October count.

I really really want to go with Marriott, but the reduction of their program after the merger has put me off, and I have the american Aspire amex, so I’m stuck with more boring hotels and smaller selections. Coupled with promos like this where I have to rely on them not to screw me after the I meet my obligations, no thanks!

I just looked over the last time you wrote about the hilton promo and I’m trying to work out my effective rebate under the existing promo:

Triple points (so 30 per $)
Dimond status (an additional 10 per $?)
14x earning on hilton spend amex (14/$)

which under my maths makes it 54 points per $ spent. On your last article you mentioned that 20 points per $ was 8.5% rebate, so this earning rate should equal 22.95% rebate?

The conrad osaka aint cheap, so this would go a fair way to easing that (earning a 151,200 points on a $2800 stay)

    • TGLoyalty says:

I agree its poor from Marriott and while the last one encouraged non-business stays (weekends) this one seems to reward your average business traveller who spends 1 night somewhere and moves on.

A Marriott point is worth about 33% more than a Hilton point so its not quite as clear cut as number of points earned but the top end Marriott are much better than the Hiltons equivalents

  • Sussex Bantam says:

As well as being a pathetic value it is also really sneaky that it only begins on 29 October.

I have an option to switch some cheap stays next week away from Hilton and I nearly did it to find out what the “mystery surprise” is. Fortunately Rob pointed out the start date…

    • Tariq says:

+1, I’ve booked most of my stays up till the end of the year now to achieve status upgrades, with several in the next two weeks which I could easily have achieved this offer on!

  • Paul Roberts says:

Re the Marriott offer, does this apply to existing or just new bookings?
Also, I am booked from 28 Oct – 31st Oct. Will that count or do I need to start my stay on/after the 29th? (I could cancel and re-book those 3 days into 2 separate bookings, but it is a pain…)

  • Harry T says:

    OT, no bits:
Just earned my first BA 241 companion voucher – where can I find it in BAEC account?

    • Roger says:

Try to book an award and if its already credited it will show up as an option.
make sure you select two passengers.

On desktop it will show up in my account -> statement (most likely)

  • Roger says:

OT- Anyone got success in Avios from AirBNB stays booked via BAEC link?
    3 Avios per £1

    • Rui N. says:

Yes, worked fine. Points showed up a month or so after stay, but the statement entry is a generic one, so it wont be obvious.

  • Freddy says:

£10 rebate in points for two hotel stays is poor

  • Bill says:

OT – which option is cheapest or easiest from EDI to Premier Inn Edinburgh Park – Addison Lee (15 quid less10) or Free Now with 40% off. Is Addison Lee best avoided since they use a partner ? Or is train better? It’s 5 people

    • BJ says:

The tram would take about 15 minutes direct from the airport to Edinburgh Park. However, I see little point with the current Free Now and Gett offers. AL probably best option but others will neec go confirm if it works via partners.

      • Bill says:

Thanks. It’s trivial amount of money. But if there’s an obvious pitfall or one to avoid that would be good feedback

        • BJ says:

I don’t know where that hotel is so the pitfall could be with the tram because the hotel may not be as close to the station as you wish. Note also there are two tram stops, you reach Edinburgh Park Central first and then Edinburgh Park Station next coming from the airport. City Cabs was available on MyTaxi so presumably FreeNow, they are the official airport taxi operator. If you are coming for leisure you might find buses easiest and cheapest to use (see Lothian Buses) but with 5 of you and Free Now offer then taxi is clearly an option even though they are not cheap in Edinburgh. There are also trains or trams from Edinburgh Park Station to the centre.

    • Keith says:

Do not get the tram! It’s £8.50 per person from the airport and that hotel is a 7 min drive from the airport.

  • Roy says:

O/T: Flying on Virgin Atlantic metal, but booked as a Delta flight number. Crediting to Flying Club – which Flying Club earning table should I be looking at? The one for Virgin flights or the one for Delta flights?

Kind of related, wheretocredit.com is often recommended around here – but again, there’s no option to enter different marketing and operating carriers. Is it really the case that they don’t need that information, because the entire miles industry handles codeshares 100% consistently? Seems unlikely…
