Any luck with Heathrow FastTrack security with Amex Platinum?

  • The Original Nick says:

Rob, when I click on (Last chance to get 50% bonus Avios with Marriot and Accor stays. Article) link it takes me to a different article.

  • RussellH says:

Are you sure that the Marriott promo is not targeted in some way?

If I am logged in to Marriott this promotion is not listed on my promotions page, and if I then click on your link, it takes me to a page saying that I am not eleigible. Only if I am not already logged in to Marriott and click on your link do I see the registration page, but (obviously) one needs to be logged in and as soon as I do that I am again told I do not qualify.

    • Rob says:

No, not targeted (unless your account is set up to earn miles). In the past Marriott I believe has excluded a small % of members from promos in order to create a testing group to measure their effectiveness.

      • RussellH says:

Account still set to points. But I have had at least one targeted promotion during the year – which worked quite nicely.
I have also had quite a few goodwill points this year for various issues.

    • LB says:

I had this too. Double check that your preferences are set to points. For some reason mine has defaulted to miles and would not let me register.

  • Graham Walsh says:

OT Anyone know another way to contact Avios?? The 0344 must have one person on the end of it., One hold for 1hr (From Barbados) and got cut off, At this rate the phone call will be more than a flight upgrade.

    • Tom1 says:

I have a few numbers stored in my phone for
      Avios.

      This one was Lloyd’s +44 1925 848770
      Then this one 0344 493 3349
      And this one. 0344 493 3399

Not sure what they all are, or if you tried already!!

    • John says:

Use Skype to call BA for free (assuming you have status) then get them to call avios for you by feigning ignorance about the difference between baec and avios

      • Graham Walsh says:

Thanks all, I called them on the xxx49 number and it turns out they can’t upgrade me as I’ve flown the outbound leg. Only chance to upgrade from WTP to CW is at the Airport. Bit of a crap system as I can see there were 4 seats on points available on the return journey but now only 3 left. Should have a system like Virgin where you can bid for an upgrade.

    • Anna says:

I redeemed my most recent voucher by calling BAEC, the CSA could see my voucher knew exactly what to do with it. Use Skype and it’ll cost pennies.

  • TripRep says:

I’ve maxxed out my Hilton points purchase this year. Tempted to sign my wife’s a/c up for the full 320k and transfer/pool to mine (for a return trip to you know where). Anyone know if there’s a max annual limit for transferring or if large amounts are frowned upon?

    • TripRep says:

ps Anyone else also taking advantage of the more favourable GBPUSD rate, heading towards $1.30 from ~$1.21 earlier this month, could be short lived positive sentiment due to (likely false) hope of a Brexit conclusion.

      • TripRep says:

        Decided to go for it…

        Here’s the Ts&Cs

Hilton Honors Members can transfer Hilton Honors Points to another Hilton Honors Member through Points Pooling or 1-to-1 transfer in increments of 1,000 Points and up to 500,000 Points. Each Hilton Honors Member is limited to sending no more than five hundred thousand (500,000) Points and receiving two million (2,000,000) Points via Points Pooling or Transfers combined per calendar year. Each Hilton Honors Member is limited to making six (6) transfers to other member accounts and six (6) Hilton Points Pooling transactions per calendar year. Invitations to join a Points Pool is not considered transactional. Transactions refer to the transfer of Points to another member account either through 1-to-1 account transfers or through Points Pooling.

Any points beyond these limits will not be posted to any Member’s account. Limits are at the sole discretion of Hilton Honors Worldwide L.L.C., subject to change.

A new Hilton Honors Member can pool, transfer, or receive Points 30 days after enrollment providing they have activity on their account. After 90 days of enrollment, a new Member is eligible to pool, transfer, or receive Points regardless of their account activity.

    • John says:

No hard limit but Hilton may audit your accounts

    • Neil Donoghue says:

Has the afternoon tea been scrapped? I can’t see it anywhere on that site?

    • Henry says:

Do they still provide breakfast or has that been cancelled?

      • TripRep says:

FT says they are both still occurring…

OT: Just wanted to check…anyone have experiences with the car hire insurance included with Amex Plat?

I take it I wouldn’t need to take out any additional, optional insurance with the hire company and if they bill me for any spurious charges for a scratch or anything, Amex will take care of it? Thanks

This would be useful in Spain where extra insurance can be costly.

    • Will says:

Pride myself on being an impeccable driver and my only 2 claims ever are on hire cars this year.

First one in Australia, car was damaged in an underground car park while parked.

Second in Poland, this reversed into a bollard.

Amex paid both claims without question. Didn’t have any excess insurance.

  • LewisB says:

OT: looks like the cheap as chips taxes from Rio are no longer a thing. Looking to book a one-way return next October and it’s coming up as 75,000 avios plus £227.80 in taxes and surcharges. A hike from the previous £23.50

    • BigSi says:

keep clicking through to the final screen and the price should drop. just booked a few days ago.

  • Will says:

Are there any UK marriotts that sell gift cards? Looking to take advantage of the amex promo.
