    O/T
Email from Capital on Tap saying new cards delayed ( great!)
Does this mean can continue to use debit card past October 31st previous deadline?

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

Well I took it that it has to work that way given it’s the only card we’ll have!

  • Jeremy says:

I have recently cancelled my BAPP card but there were still around 200 odd avios in my AMEX account. Will they be transferred during the next cycle to my BA account or not? I am getting mixed signals.

    • stevenhp1987 says:

No. They will be lost. You can downgrade to the free one if you want to keep them.

I recently cancelled a BAPP with 7 avios… Couldn’t be bothered to downgrade just for that.

      • Jeremy says:

but that was not the case in the past, right? although they were saying that AMEX-BA link is broken upon cancellation, remaining points were still getting transferred during next cycle

    • Charlieface says:

I’ve had it work in the past, others haven’t. The T&Cs are clear it should still carry over.

  • S L says:

    OT

Not done a points transfer before. Do you have to wait for one to fully complete before being able to do another one and if so roughly how long? I transferred 120000 MR to Marriott Bonvoy yesterday but now need to send another 60000 more but an error comes up saying “This transfer has already been placed”.

    • Rob says:

Odd. Didn’t think you did, to be honest, but I admit I’ve never tried it.

  • Sussex Bantam says:

OT – for those waiting for the next Shell conversion bonus to post – mine did today from an original transaction on 12 September.

    • Sussex Bantam says:

Oh sorry – didn’t realise there were two pages of comments this morning !

  • Jacqui says:

Is there some formula or something that can be used to help get ones head around the new:

    14000 Avios + 50p
    11000 Avios + £ 15.50
    9000 Avios + £ 25.50
    6500 Avios + £ 45.50
    5600 Avios + £ 55.50
    5000 Avios + £ 65.50

In terms of working out what is best value?

    • Rob says:

It’s usually the ‘old’ one, ie 9k + £25. You need to look at it marginally from there, eg if you do 14k + 50p you are spending 5000 extra Avios to save just £25, which is a bad deal.

      • Russ says:

With all the changes to point earning cards this year do you factor in ease of earning more? I now book potential flights with the least amount of cash but definite flights with the maximum in cash.

    • Alexey says:

      9000 Avios + £ 25.50
      6500 Avios + £ 45.50

I think second on is better value ,

basically you get 2500 avios for 20 gbp ,
      I would normally value avios = 1p

    • John says:

You first need to assign a monetary value to every avios, many people use 1p but I use 0.6p. Then you just work out the monetary value of each option.

  • Jim says:

    OT:

Do Gold’s get Free Breakfast at a Doubletree?

    • Peter K says:

Hilton Gold gets free breakfast *if* chosen as your myway option.

      • Russ says:

Indeed and they will ask you at the desk to confirm your choice which is helpful.

        • RussellH says:

I have **never** been asked to confirm! I just walk into the breakfast room. One occasion I did have to make a fuss. I mentioned it at check-out and they could not explain it – they assured me that free breakfast was on their list!

        • Rui N. says:

I think I’ve been asked only once or twice (out of a few dozen times across all Hilton brands). One time I asked how did breakfast work, the person told me “it’s from X to Y, and it costs Z”. I said, “thank you, so for gold members is there a voucher or something?”. And they started “oh, your my way preference is not breakfast, it’s the points” (if it was, I didn’t do it); I asked for it to be changed then, they claimed it was not possible; had to make a fuss, ended up receiving the breakfast vouchers (“as a one time courtesy”, I said “thank you, but it is not a courtesy, so please don’t pretend that it is”) and the my way points also posted!

          • TGLoyalty says:

So you didn’t have your benefit selected correctly and the hotel did grant you are courtesy

          • Rui N. says:

Unless my account was hacked I certainly did not, as I for sure would not select the points (at the time I lived in the US and was generating 50k Hilton points per month with the citi cards). As people said here, they can easily select what option to give us at check in in any case (unless lots of people here are lying), so it was not certainly a courtesy. No need to make excuses for incompetence (or worst, being a bad person on purpose, which was the impression they were giving).

      • Lady London says:

Choose breakfast. Sometimes you will find the points on your account as well.

        • Alex says:

If you download the hilton app you can choose which you want; free breakfast or points. This shows up on their screen. Never tried it but you could have your preference as free breakfast until you have eaten and then switch it to free points before check out.

          • John says:

No, switch to points *after* checkout but before midnight, you will always get the points.

Switch to breakfast before midnight of the day of check in, and the hotel will see it as breakfast.

Not sure if midnight is UK time or one of the US timezones, as I do it in the afternoon (when I was gold). May run the risk of upsetting Hilton but they didn’t get upset with me.

          • Crafty says:

This all seems very complicated. I’ve been permanently set to “points” ever since I’ve even an Honors (or then HHonors member). I’ve always been able to have breakfast, with the exception of one very jobsworthy Doubletree in Girona (who eventually gave me what I wanted, which was breakfast, but not without quite a bit of fuss).

        • Russ says:

          true.

        • Mark says:

Did 3 stays in the US recently on the £100 back on £500 spend Amex offer. Two of those were at Hilton Garden Inns where, having previously set the preference to breakfast I got both breakfast and the points. I’m sure at one of them they also asked on check-in and I confirmed I wanted the breakfast.

750 points per stay is a rather poor alternative to breakfast, even if only one person staying one night.

          • Jill (Kinkell) says:

We used the same offer in the States recently on 2 cards ( at the one hotel). Breakfast was a disappointment…..it was all carbs and pretty basic . You had to pay an upgrade fee for the full continental, and pay even more if you ordered off the menu.

          • John says:

@Jill – you should be getting a cooked breakfast at HGI.

        • MarkH says:

Select points on your profile and then ask about breakfast at check-in. They will say ‘oh you have points selected as your my way benefit let me change it to breakfast.’

You will then get breakfast and points will still post after the stay.

  • Russ says:

Ot as bits, I’ve been to the Premier Inn a couple of times now and still don’t know what to do with a car if I’m driving. Where does everyone else park who keeps their keys? Currently my car is parked at the Renaissance across the airfield.

    • John says:

If you’re talking about Heathrow, I park on residential roads in Bedfont for free but be careful not to obstruct or annoy the actual residents. Not saying where exactly, else all the spaces will be taken next time.

      • Lebron 23 says:

lewin terrace and page road are always my first options, quick easy walk to tube

    • Russ says:

Thanks John and Lebron. Good suggestions but was thinking about somewhere paid. LHR parking prices are about the same cost as taking a taxi there.

  • Helix says:

OT Amex US has just announced a refresh of the Green Card. Perhaps we might see some changes here?… probably just a higher fee! lol
